About this listen

Knowledge is power. That would be the motto of Lander University, had it not been snatched up and used to death by others long before the school was founded. For while Lander offers a full range of courses to nearly all students, it also offers a small number of specialty classes to a very select few. Lander is home to the Hero Certification Program, a curriculum designed to develop students with superhuman capabilities, commonly known as Supers, into official Heroes. Five of this year's freshmen are extra special. They have a secret aside from their abilities - one that they must guard from even their classmates.

For every one person in the world with abilities they can control, there are three who lack such skill. These lesser super beings - Powereds, as they are called - have always been treated as burdens and second-class citizens. Though there has been ample research in the area, no one has ever succeeded in turning a Powered into a regular human, let alone a Super.

That is, until now....

give it a chance

this book starts out really slow, with boring generic characters and crappy names like mr numbers and mr transport. I was about to give up on this, but i didn't have anything else to read, so i stuck with it. and i'm glad i did.

it's like a standard teenage movie / tv serie AT först, which is mildly entertaining, but it morphs into more superhero stuff as The characters grow.

now i'm off to get The second book. i'm itching to hear the rest!

I'm so glad I bought this book!!

I was a little apprehensive at first after listening to the sample. The narrator's subtle gasps between lines were heavily present in the sample but relatively scarce in the book. I was worried that would get on my nerves but I was quickly pulled so deeply into the story that I didn't notice; too lost in the story to care! I loved it passionately! from the variety of relatable (and believable) characters to the perfect progression! I've already purchased the rest of the series and I'm excited to continue on to book 2!

Loved them all!

As I write this, I have just finished the entire series. Four books, 160+ hours of listening, all in a row. Not my usual genre but I loved the Fred the Vampire Account books so I thought I would try this. So glad I did. I loved the whole series and got very invested in the characters. The narrator was great and I never had trouble knowing what characters were speaking. And the end of the series was very satisfying. Wish I could listen again for the first time.

wow. just wow

wow. Thus us an amazing novel. I was looking for something lone and entertaining, and boy did I find it. All of the characters were so beautifully described. Their personalities were intriguing and the twist at the end was so enjoyable. I'm definitely going to be purchasing the next audible book.

Amazing Series

I would recommend this book to anyone. What an amazing series. The books are great as standalone as well. I was surprised as I continued to read each following edition. Can’t wait for whatever it is this guy does next. So obsessed with this author.

Fun new world. Hints at Future underlying plots

this book was a bit of a slow starter but once it got going the storyline held my attention and I started to be vested in the characters. He was a nice new twist and unique storyline so I'm enjoying its originality and entertainment. at the end of the book they were hints of a deeper underlying plot and more to come. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series. the performer did a decent job narrating but a couple of the characters were little too nasal, dry, and monotone. I realize that maybe the nature of the characters in there for intentional. But it was also hard to listen to and sometimes tedious before you got into the story and cared more about what was happening then listening to a whiny monotone. Particularly mr. numbers and mr. transport.
