Publisher's summary

Shattered by You can be listened to as a standalone.

From New York Times and USA Today best-selling author Nashoda Rose comes a full-length friends-to-lovers romance.

What started out as a deal quickly became a friendship that conquered monsters.

I killed, but I escaped hell. Emotionless. Disconnected. Cold. A mannequin. It's what I'd become in order to survive the years held in captivity. I was able to endure the abuse and devastating loss as long as I remained detached.

But he wouldn't let me. Crisis, the bass guitarist in my brother's rock band, Tear Asunder. He's cocky, rude, a total man-whore. But the rock star has far more beneath the surface of his inked skin, and he's determined to make me laugh again. He made me a "deal", but really it was blackmail.

His terms were simple. Until his playful honesty became the building blocks to something unexpected. Something strong enough to pull me from the eye of the storm. Because even though I escaped years of abuse, it didn't mean I was free.

For mature audiences only - 18+. Listener discretion is advised. Dark elements.

Listening to gritty is different to reading it

I’m going to keep this review fairly short. I know I’ve said that before, but this time, I mean it.

To start off, I have to say that Nashoda Rose is definitely becoming one of my favourite authors. Her style of writing, depth and character development really appeals to me. I haven’t read a book from this series in a while and I was worried that I would struggle to remember what was going on. That worry was put to rest pretty quickly. What I thought I’d struggle with, came back relatively quickly. The characters are hard to forget. The pain they’ve survived and the happiness they found or are working towards makes it easy to pick up and follow along.

Now, to be honest, I think I made a mistake. I should have read this story instead of listening to it. It’s hard to explain. The story is great and the audio is great but I think that some of the overwhelming feelings I normally get when reading myself, was missing. Sure, I still squirmed, giggled, gasped and shuddered but I think if I’d read it, it would have been even more of an experience.

I actually bought this in audio form because I’m a huge fan of Stella Bloom as a narrator. She does a great job again. Now, Kas Vadim, he does a great job too…but, I think I struggle with a guy doing a girls voice. I know that seems mean, sexist and judgemental, but a female dropping her voice to do the male comes through better (for me) than vice verse.

Now, story-wise…oh boy, oh boy, oh boy. You really have to toughen up for this one. I found listening to a scene with graphic violence, especially the one in this book, had me physically reacting. Yep, on the train…AGAIN. I swear my fellow passengers must think there is something wrong with me. My body jumped, my face scrunched up and I even said (out loud) Ewww. Just a wee bit embarrassing.

Shattered By You is not an easy story to enjoy. The pain, abuse and suffering that was experienced by Haven is not something you’d wish on your worst enemy. The fact that it happened when she was really young makes it even more horrific. Luckily, waiting on the other side is Crisis. He holds the glue and sticky tape to help her put herself back together. It’s a long process and all the gang from Tear Asunder, including Haven’s twin Ream, come together with their own version of masking tape to help as well. They won’t give up on her.

Shattered By You was a bloody great story and a fantastic audio book. I can’t wait for Kite to get his story so we can see how kinky he really is.

Best one so far

I loved all the books in the series, but this is my favorite one so far. Stella bloom is always the perfect choice of narrator for this kind of role like in the seal protection series. I truly loved crisis and havens relationship. His character had so much development. Very well written.

love those boys from Torn Asunder

The male narrator was just perfect. I liked that this one had more of Crisis 'a POV, and he was just perfect. My heart hurt for the life that Haven had. Crisis was perfect for her and they were perfect together. New to this author based on a deal I received on Perfect Chaos (Georgie and Decks book) and I have been bingeing her ever since. Can be read as stand alone but will enjoy more if read/listened to in order.

Opens up hard issues

This is an excellent listen for those who are open to hearing discussion of captivity and sexual abuse recovery. Yes, there can be entertainment in listening to a story of survival of the spirit. Rose does an excellent job of creating the background of these situations without having to go into such graphic detail that the listener can't enjoy the end result. If you like stories of personal triumph with sec and romance, you will enjoy this book.

Another good one!

This audiobook in the Tear Asunder series was really entertaining. I loved the character of Crisis (Vincent) from the beginning of the series. Haven, a sister of one of his bandmates, is having problems since she reappeared with coping. The relationship between these two characters is very well written. Be forewarned that there are some dark issues in these books, yet they are handled really well. Also good narration.

Crisis..the fecal agitator..

Crisis..chaos follows him everywhere, but what a heart of gold. He was perfect for Haven. Again mind the TW's, there are many.
Thanks for sharing the Torn Asunder world with us Nashoda! Excellent narration.
