Publisher's summary
An empowering guide to the gift of singleness that will help you leave shame in the past and let go of anxiety about the future in order to thrive today—from a thirtysomething single pastor who understands that the struggle is real.
“Raw, relatable, and encouraging.”—New York Times bestselling author Granger Smith
Ryan Wekenman has been an unmarried pastor for over a decade. He’s heard all the usual questions: “Are you dating anyone? Any wedding plans in the future?” But he knows the real question they’re asking is, “Hey, do you think you’ll be single for the rest of your life?”
Ryan believes that singleness isn’t a curse to endure. Rather, it’s a gift to enjoy, even if at times it can be hard to see it that way. But he has discovered firsthand—and from hundreds of meetings with other single people—that we are often consumed by regrets or shame from the past, together with worry or fear of the future, making it feel impossible to find peace in the present.
But it doesn’t have to be that way. Single Today shares Ryan’s perceptive anecdotes, thought-provoking questions, biblical insight, and disarming humor as he invites you into his journey of learning to fully embrace his current reality.
Single Today will encourage you to
• gain practical tools to help handle the annoying and uncomfortable situations single people get placed in
• learn how to talk to family and friends about your singleness with confidence
• practice opening your heart and embracing true intimacy
• stop believing your marital status is keeping you stuck
• start living the full and abundant life available today
No amount of shame will change the past, and no amount of worry will fix the future, but with a little faith and work, you can start thriving today.

Story
In this compelling and gripping book, Preston tells the story of how God chased him. The streets of Chicago were his home, and it was there that he encountered all sorts of people who had their own versions of the truth―from Jehovah Witnesses to Mormons to Hebrew Israelites. That is where Preston discovered not only the importance of the truth but how to tell the truth in a way that speaks to someone’s heart. Sharing our faith is not about winning arguments; it’s about winning hearts.

Previously published as Upset the World—and now fully revised and rewritten for today's unique challenges, circumstances, and opportunities—Welcome to the Basement is a rallying cry and a practical guide to God's radical last-shall-be-first, least-shall-be-greatest way of living.

For the first time in history, the average age for an American woman having her first child, 26, is younger than the average age of her first marriage, 27. More children than ever are growing up in fatherless homes, despite the overwhelming evidence that in every measurable way this is bad for the child. The Center for Disease Control also recently reported a dramatic rise in sexually transmitted disease nationwide. We've been taught, for example, that emotions are untrustworthy when, in fact, they are a gift from God to help us notice what is wrong and where we need to heal. Your emotions are not something to suppress or ignore. They are meant to be felt, examined, and shared.

So, he turned to a trusted mentor for guidance and heard these words: "Ruthlessly eliminate hurry from your life. Hurry is the great enemy of the spiritual life." It wasn’t the response he expected, but it was - and continues to be - the answer he needs. It turns out giving up your "right" to be offended can be one of the most freeing, healthy, simplifying, relaxing, refreshing, stress-relieving, encouraging things you can do. It's a radical, provocative idea: We're not entitled to get offended or stay angry. The idea of our own "righteous anger" is a myth. It is the number one problem in our societies today and, as Dallas Willard says, Christians have not been taught out of it. But what if Christians were the most unoffendable people on the planet?

Best-selling author Jackie Hill Perry, in her much anticipated follow-up to Gay Girl, Good God, helps us find the reason we don’t trust God - we misunderstand his holiness. Critic reviews
“Single Today is a brave and stirring look into the deep waters of the human heart. It asks probing questions and explores underlying pressures of marital expectations from the church and society. Yes, this is a book about being single, but it is even more about being truly present and soaking up every bit of beauty that the past and the future might otherwise steal.”—Jeffrey Tacklind, author of The Winding Path of Transformation, and pastor of Little Church by the Sea, Laguna Beach
“Single Today will be an encouragement to many who need to know that they are unique, gifted, valued, and loved.”—Ben Higgins, co-founder and president of Generous International and author of Alone in Plain Sight
“I’ve been a mentor for single women for more than a decade, and I wish I had this practical resource to share with them sooner! It’s funny, warm, and encouraging, and it reads like you’re having coffee with a good friend who also happens to be one of the wisest people you know. Single Today will change the way you see your past and your future, your singleness and yourself.”—Stephanie May Wilson, author of Create a Life You Love

Story
The book of Enoch was thought to be lost for over 2,000 years until, in 1773, a traveller brought three copies back from Ethiopia. Whether or not this ancient book was actually authored by Enoch, the father of Methuselah and great-grandfather of Noah, is an ongoing debate among historians and theologians. But all recognise the book of Enoch as one of the most important apocalyptic works outside of the Bible.

Story
Turning the other cheek does not mean standing by while the enemies of God dismantle Christian civilization and brainwash our children. Decrying the cowardice that masquerades as meekness, Eric Metaxas summons the Church to battle. An attenuated and unbiblical “faith” based on what Bonhoeffer called “cheap grace” has sapped the spiritual vitality of millions of Americans. Paying lip service to an insipid “evangelism,” they shrink from combating the evils of our time. Metaxas refutes the pernicious lie that fighting evil politicizes Christianity.

Authentic, meaningful, heartfelt, funny and thought provoking
I thought it was a really well written and thought provoking book. It was fun to listen to it on audible and hear the authors inflections as he read his own words. I really related to not getting bogged down in my shame from yesterday or holding grudges from the past. Knowing that Jesus can use those today is so encouraging to remember. Such a powerful story to live with a content perspective today.
