About this listen

The past and future collide in a balance between good and evil, survival and annihilation.

The end of a decades-long intergalactic war has brought the victorious warmongering horde, the Ragnaw, to earth. Although defeated, the Obasyn race sends the human race one last chance to battle the Ragnaw plague. The Obasyn crystal wields the capability to gift beings powers of unimaginable proportions, but there can only be six of these miraculous individuals. They will have to work together to preserve humanity, but will they be enough?

With the arrival of the vicious alien species, human history as we know it will be completely distorted. Will humanity join together or die with infighting as the Ragnaw prepare their final assault against civilization?

Captivating! Impossible to put down.

This was original in a way that only comes around once in a lifetime, if that. Hooks you immediately and leaves you wanting more. This kind of story telling is so lost in our modern age; it's beyond refreshing to read something that builds a nuanced fictional world in your minds eye while still honing in on realtime human experience. This is the focal point of being an avid reader - to become so immersed and lost in other worldly matters while simultaneously connecting to our truest selves. 10/10.

An original and creative take on superheroes

The alternative history setting is really clever and the author takes on the basic super hero concept from a fresh angle.

Really interesting and thought provoking

This story of the six really grabs you from the start and doesn't let go. It's a well detailed alternate world with enough truth to make it recognizable. It's a battle of philosophy and power that keeps you guessing with every twist and turn. If you like science fiction, you'll love this.

Draws you in!

I’m not typically an avid reader, but listening to this book has sparked a newfound interest. The storytelling and action are nothing short of exceptional, drawing you in and fueling your imagination. It’s the kind of narrative that feels cinematic, making you envision it as a film or TV series.

Very reminiscent of my favorite fantasy and sci-fi books

I really like this book. it reminds me of star wars mixed with Brandon Sanderson, Christopher Paolini, and Rebecca Yaros. Great story. I really love the immersion but not too intrusive detail!

Cloak and Dagger.

The characters story arks are phenomenal. I found myself caring about individuals who are bad people but for their own right reasons. This is a testament to excellent writing and thoughts into building up each individual character. Not so they were some sort of NPC but a fully developed main character in their own right. The twists and turns that happen throughout the story keep the reader guessing and engaged throughout the story. I would highly recommend this to any lover of character development and world building.

Needs longer breaks between scenes

Great story, world building and narration.

But they need to put longer breaks between scenes. Especially with the heavy use of flashbacks and flash forwards. A scene would end and immediately run into the next scene without a break, making it confusing and hard to follow.

A title crippled by its prologue, narrator, and hanging ending

Disclosure: audiobook received for free.

I wanted to stop listening to this book about ten minutes in, but persisted as I was given the book in exchange for reviewing it. tl;dr? If you make it past the aliens it turns into a decent tale.

The prologue is painful. It describes a battle between two alien races that are poorly described and come across as one-dimensional. The baddies are after the thing of power, which the goodies protect with their lives before sending it away to prevent its loss to evil.

Enter Earth in the mid-19th century. Object was sent here, while baddies are not sure which of a thousand planets received it. They of course send some of their force here, and ensure that a global government is put in place to hunt for the object.

Twists and complications ensue over the next two centuries.

While most of the story was quite enjoyable, it has its share of plot holes and deus ex machinae. It also ends
Without resolution; something this reader can bear in a compilation but not when the title stands alone.

Narrator failed the author. While doing their best to provide different voices for the characters, there is no break between chapters, or when the story jumps back or forward in time; a common and sometimes confusing occurrence.

Not bad overall, but unless the prologue is given significant attention I suspect many potential listeners will return it for a refund.
