Publisher's summary
The hard-hitting sequel to groundbreaking military adventure Dead Six.
On the far side of the world, deep in former Soviet Central Asia, lies a stronghold called the Crossroads. It is run with an iron fist by a brutal warlord calling himself Sala Jihan. He is far more than a petty dictator, for Jihan holds the fate of nations in his grasp. To save a world slipping into chaos, Jihan must either fall or be controlled.
One secret military organization called Exodus plans to see that this happens. For this mission, they need the best of the best. Unfortunately the man they need is rotting in an almost unassailable foreign prison.
Enter Lorenzo, thief extraordinaire. Lorenzo is now retired, happily married, and living in paradise. His Achilles heel: an FBI-agent brother who has gone missing - disappeared into the stronghold of warlord Jihan. Exodus promises to give Lorenzo his chance to rescue his brother if and only if Lorenzo will perform one service for them: break Michael Valentine out of a captivity from which no one has ever emerged alive.
And if Lorenzo can accomplish that - well then, the Crossroads awaits the sword of Exodus.

Sheriff Hayden Duke was born on the Pilgrim, and he expects to die on the Pilgrim, like his father, and his father before him. That's the way things are on a generation starship centuries from home. He's never questioned it. Never thought about it. And why bother? Access points to the ship's controls are sealed, the systems that guide her automated and out of reach. It isn't perfect, but he has all he needs to be content. Until a malfunction forces his engineer wife to the edge of the habitable zone to inspect the damage.

When out-of-shape IT technician Roen wakes up and starts hearing voices in his head, he naturally assumes he’s losing it. He isn’t. As of last night, he has a passenger in his brain - an ancient alien life-form called Tao, whose race crash-landed on Earth before the first fish crawled out of the oceans. Over the millennia his people have trained human heroes to be great leaders, to advance our species at a rate far beyond what it would have achieved on its own. Split into two opposing factions - the peace-loving, but under-represented Prophus, and the savage, powerful Genjix - the aliens have been in a state of civil war for centuries.

Narrator or audio problem
A great story and characters as part of a series but it has one maddening problem when listening as I drive. Pinchot is overall a great narrator but when he switches to an accented female character his volume drops so much that it is largely unintelligible. I’m either constantly adjusting the volume or listening with the main characters painfully loud. For most of the book I have no idea what Katerina is saying.

Couldn't Stop Listening!
I really enjoy the detail, character development and pace of the Dead Six Series.
I am emotionally invested and feel as if I know the characters personally and can picture each one individually. As a retired Navy Chief I am impressed with the level of tactical detail and knowledge of the weapons used.
Bronson Pinchot does am excellent job performing the story, bringing the work to life.

Looking forward to sequel
I love the story, hack of a cliff hanger in the end. I feel that while the narrator did a good job on narrating female voices, he was a bit weak in portraying volume. Some parts the story mention that the female protagonist is speaking louder than normal, but just listening to it, I couldn't tell the difference.

Minor narrator gripes.
My only complaints are the narrator's voice for Reaper, and his pronunciation of some gun-related products that would have take five minutes to research and get right.

I almost returned this book to get my credit back. Now I'm waiting for the next in the series. It was nice to see that a main character was killed, as well as see character development in the characters. The people in this story feel like real people.

Paramilitary Thriller
I enjoyed this book just as much as the first in the series, maybe even a little bit more. Again, the banter and humor from Lorenzo‘s point of you makes this book. Valentine is the depressed/dark/morose motherfucker while Lorenzo is the light hearted/Devil may care kind of character. The bar fight in Montana had me in stitches. Supernatural powers were very briefly hinted at, at the beginning of the first book. This book is either leading towards that end or is trying to make you think that’s where it’s going. I’m looking forward to listening to the third book in the series.

Great story and narration.
The first book in this series, Dead Six, was my first experience with this author. It took me two or three tries to get into the book but I'm so glad I did. This second installment was equally enjoyable and could easily be read as a standalone. The narrator, Bonson Pinchot, did a fabulous job! He is becoming one of my favorite narrators. He has a knack for understanding the personalities of the different characters and expertly conveys the pace and tension of the story. The story moved quickly with no slow spots and held my interest throughout. I will definitely seek out more books by both this author and this narrator. This book is intended for adult listeners due to the subject matter. I would highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys the spy/espionage genre. Happy Reading!
