Quirky Interesting Tale

I received this book for free. I am voluntarily posting this review and all opinions expressed herein are my own.

This is a quirky tale of a Scottish man starting a window cleaning business. It is mostly anecdotal - with a few humorous tales thrown in. The book discusses how he ended up as a window cleaner - not something he had/has a passion for but something with which he can earn a living. He looks at various methods at increasing his business and his pricing. This is not meant to be a how-to manual, but rather an inspirational one to start your own small business.

The author narrates the book himself. He has a pleasant tone to his voice, with a Scottish accent, and it is nice to listen to. However, throughout the whole book, I detected a low-level hum.

Authentic Down-to-Earth Small Business Advice

Too many business books skip over the hardest part of building an entrepreneurial business, leaving secure employment and building up a loyal client base. This book takes you step-by-step through the whole process. When someone thinks about business, often they think about spending a lot of money on a business degree.

But the real-life realities of starting a successful small business come from a series of good decisions, some planned, some lucky and surviving those mistakes. In this book, Scottish author David MacDean takes you from the moment he left his job through the highs and lows of developing a successful small business.

This book answers some tough and often unexpected questions that a single person business has to deal with. When do I leave my job? Where do I get my first customers? Do I take underpriced jobs? What should I do if customers don’t pay? How do I expand my business? How do I increase my prices? All of these are uncomfortable conversations that David MacDean methodically works through providing his rationales and choices.

Not what I expected but quite entertaining!

The 0.0082% Business by David MacDean was completely not what I was expecting, as other reviewers have mentioned as well. I was also expecting a business book but was pleasantly surprised when Mr. MacDean started his tale of getting into window-washing. He wrote this book of his experiences with candor, humor, and nuggets of great, actionable tidbits for those out there that are looking to start their own small business. I really enjoyed listening to his story.

Mr. MacDean has a great reading voice, though be prepared, as he is Scottish. I didn't have a problem listening to his narration, but some that have trouble with accents may. I'd recommend listening to the sample first. My reason for the four-star review on narration is simply because the audio recording is pretty poor. It sounds tinny and listening to that for any amount of time is going to being on a migraine in migraine sufferers. That being said, I had to listen in short spurts. I would recommend getting some better audio recording equipment in the future. I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher for an honest review.

A quirky/interesting tale of one mans journey to become a window cleaner

The book is a look into the authors beginnings as a window cleaner. It’s a slow but interesting tale. As a small business owner I could relate to different things he talked about. If you are looking for a short and fun read this book may be for you. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
