Publisher's summary

Looking for a sweeping summer listen? Magic, romance, and slumbering gods clash in this riveting romantasy about a seafaring girl and a playboy prince who band together in a precarious journey. From the New York Times best-selling author of the Aurora Cycle and the Illuminae Files.

Selly has salt water in her veins. So when her father leaves her high and dry in the port of Kirkpool, she has no intention of riding out the winter at home while he sails off to adventure. But any plans to follow him are dashed when a handsome stranger with tell-tale magician's marks on his arm commandeers her ship. He is Prince Leander of Alinor and he needs to cross the Crescent Sea without detection so he can complete a ritual on the sacred Isles of the Gods. Selly has no desire to escort a spoiled prince anywhere, and no time for his entitled demands or his good looks. But what starts as a leisure cruise will lead to acts of treason and sheer terror on the high seas, bringing two countries to the brink of war, two strangers closer than they ever thought possible and stirring two dangerous gods from centuries of slumber...

Amazing

Amie Kaufman did it again. This book took 10 years to find its way to us but Gods was it worth it!!! Every POV gave something to the story in a way not many authors manage, I never found myself wishing I was in someone’s head. All the characters are so well rounded and I adore Leander, Selly, Keegan and Jude to pieces. The cast of narrators was complete perfection, and honestly I cannot wait for book 2!!!!!

Great story and characters!

Glad I listened and am going to check out Amie’s other books (that I haven’t already listened to) now! Ready for the second one now!

I have made a mistake…

I was first introduced to Amie Kauffman through Illuminae and Aurora Rising, which she wrote with Jay Kristoff. When I saw she wrote this book (which I believe is her first solo book?) I immediately preordered it.
After reading her and Jay Kristoff’s previously mentioned series, I should have expected and ending that made me CRAVE the next installment of the series… I didn’t and now here I am HORRIFIED at the thought of waiting an entire year (at least) for the next part of the story.
One of my favorite reads so far this year!

Great start to a series

I really enjoyed the storyline of this book. I sometimes struggle with books that are told through different POV, but the author did a great job with it. Selly is a fantastic character, and I'm looking forward to her growth throughout the series. The one thing that I didn't love about listening to the book on here was the different voice actors. Normally, I like it when there are multiple actors. Due to the story being read through different POV, the voices for the characters were constantly changing, which made it confusing to figure out who was who. For example, if it was Leanders POV then Sellys voice was done by that actor in that chapter. But then during Keegans POV Sellys voice would be done by that actor. It took me put of the story because I was continuously trying to figure out who was who because the voices were constantly changing for each character depending on the POV.

Overall, I highly recommend this book. I may get the hardcopy for the next one if it is written in the same POV format and read by multiple actors.
