Story
The modern audience hasn't had a chance to truly appreciate the unknowing dread that readers would have felt when reading Bram Stoker's original 1897 manuscript. Most modern productions employ campiness or sound effects to try to bring back that gothic tension, but we've tried something different. By returning to Stoker's original storytelling structure - a series of letters and journal entries voiced by Jonathan Harker, Dr. Van Helsing, and other characters - with an all-star cast of narrators, we've sought to recapture its originally intended horror and power.

Story
They said write what you know so that's what I did. I wrote dirty, I wrote erotic, I wrote the truth. And then they called me a liar. But it's not me who's lying, it's them. Our story isn't for everyone. It's not even for us. So if you're looking for the fairy tale and the stupid prince on his dumb white horse, move along. You've got a hold of the wrong book. This is not your story, this is not your life, and this is not your opportunity to dip your frightened little toe into the dark pool of water and "try new things" and then pull it out and decide... #NotForMe.

Story
It’s the summer of ’77 in New York City, and the only thing more unnerving than the scorching heatwave is the rampant murder, leaving washed-up homicide detective Richard Dietrich on edge. When Dietrich investigates a brutal mob hit the brass doesn’t want him to solve, he goes from phoning it in to getting in over his head. Caught up in a mysterious second homicide with an even more perplexing perpetrator, Dietrich starts to second guess his instincts—and his memory—as he searches for answers at the bottom of a bottle.

Excellent!
I loved these novels years ago in print & have rediscovered them now in audio. Ms. Porter is the perfect narrator for this wonderful series. A++ all the way!

Great Series
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I couldn't put this one down. When I had finished one book I had to go and get the next book in the series. It kept my attention all the way through the series.
What does Davina Porter bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
I have listened some other books by Davina Porter. I like the way she makes the people come alive when she tells the story.

To long to be reunited
The story was well written and kept my interest but 47 years of life without being with your one true love is way to long for a happy ending, it felt more like a wasted life. Even so the ending did make up for it somewhat.

Great feel good audiobook❣️
Davina Porter's narration is so easy to listen to. The voice she gives to each character brings the story to life in your mind's eye.
This is a gentle and clean story that does not get "hot and heavy". But it does make the heart swoon.

Too preachy
This is a book of preachy pushiness disguised as a fictional novel. If you can get past that and a sniveling weak main character then this is your book.
