Publisher's summary

When a woman's whole life falls apart, she finds refuge in the home she left behind in this touching novel from the New York Times best-selling author of Before We Were Yours.

Karen Sommerfield has been hiding from the big questions of her life - the emotional distance in her marriage, her inability to have children, and her bout with cancer. Getting lost in her high-powered career provides the sense of purpose she yearns for. Until the day she's downsized out of her job and the doctor tells her the cancer may be back. It's a double blow that would send anyone reeling.

It sends Karen to Grandma Rose's old farm, where her sister has made a seemingly perfect life. Opening herself to the unexpected, Karen finds a lonely child in need of nurturing and insights into her family's past. In the quiet of the Missouri Ozarks, where the sycamore leaves whisper their soft, secret language, she begins to discover answers - and a joy to make her life complete.

I wish I had known this is "book 3 of 5"

I love Lisa Wingate. She's amazing. I didn't realize this book belongs in a set if 5 books. I'm grateful I had read the first two already. If I had known, I would have listened to them back to back and in order. I have 2 questions to the author.. 1 in this book Mrs Gibson comes to meet the family, but her granddaughter is not with her, nor is she mentioned. Also Drew Lane, Jenna Lee's brother. When he introduced himself it sounds like drooling, not Drew Lane. Parents really should hear these things before filling out birth certificates. Other than that I absolutely love this book. Can't wait to start the next.

Lisa is an incredible writer. She paints her words like a true artist. I could picture myself right there in the mermaid pool!

Tending the Rose Series

I’m just loving this Lisa Wingate series. The third book brings the family altogether in surprising fashion. Bonding, finding true callings and learning from the past makes The Language of the Sycamores a great story. On to the next one.

The Language of Sycamores Breaks the Heart

Lisa Wingate has an exceptional ability to take the reader's emotions and ramp them up even more. It is awfully hard to read any novel by Lisa Wingate and not shed a tear. Such is the case in this, the third of the "Tending Roses" novels. (NOTE: You don't have to read them in order, but I HIGHLY suggest that you do, and so if you are thinking about reading this novel and have not read the first two books (Tending Roses and Good Hope Road), then I highly suggest that you do that first. It will help you on your journey,)

The narration was skillfully executed by Erin Spencer. Very fine job, indeed. Erin is one of the best of the narrators.

For those of you "Tending Roses" readers who were wanting to know more about the three grandmothers and what went wrong in the relationship, this novel will reveal that information.

I cannot say enough good things about this novel. Hear for yourself.
