Publisher's summary

When it comes to the unknown territory of having a baby, moms to be have nearly unending resources to plan and execute a healthy pregnancy and navigate those first months and years as a parent with confidence. New dads? Not so much. They want to get in the game, too, but, says Super Bowl champion Benjamin Watson, "I could find clearer directions for putting together a baby swing than for taking care of a newborn child."

The New Dad's Playbook is every man's game plan to being the best partner and the best father, from preseason (preparing for fatherhood) to Super Bowl (birth) to postseason (after baby is home). It helps men understand what their wives are going through physically and emotionally during and after pregnancy, allowing them to support their most important teammate. It tells men what to expect when their baby is home - and what to do when the unexpected happens. This tell-it-like-it-is book will take men from just winging it to winning it.

Perfect for an expecting father.

This puts a lot of things into perspective. It doesn’t go into much detail, however it gives you a great guide of what you can expect.

The perfect book for expecting Dad's 👌

The book is jam packed full of valuable information. I actually read this book when my son was 10 months old. Everything that is discussed up until that point is spot on! If you are a new dad or an expecting dad.....this book is a MUST! -Inside Izzo Podcast

Not what I was expecting

I was expecting a more in-depth parenting book aimed at fathers. I felt like this book is more geared towards how to be a better husband. Frankly, I think this book would be perfect for women discerning a husband. Once you pick your spouse I am not sure how much this book recommends can actually change. Even more so, once you start having kids with your spouse even less change is expected.

I wish this book was more detailed on the parenting information sections. For example there is a part where the author talks about his wife entering in a false labor and they timed the contractions and had a sigh of relief knowing it was false labor, and that was it. Why would a parenting book for expecting father's not then lead into a chapter about labor? Especially when the book hints that the author does have the knowledge about types of labors and false labors.

After reading this book I feel two things. One, that women are just damned if they really did not take the husband tips in this book into account before getting married. Two, that I now need to go find another book that covers aspects of pregnancy that this book mentions but does not explain.

Very insightful

I just finished listening to this. I’m still expecting, so I don’t know how much of this information is good or not. I will say that I love the message of this book. This book is full of information that I didn’t know I wanted to know. It will not let you down! Loved it!

Brand new Dad

This was a good book. It is a christ centered perspective for the most part. There are some really corny football references, but that does keep it fun. Overall, good story, lightly informative, more like a conversation with a mentor that is a Dad.

Solid nuggets but incredibly preachy

Some very valuable advice, nuggets of wisdom and ideas for how to show up as a good husband during pregnancy. Just be ready for VERY heavy evangelism in numerous of the sections.
I’m also not a big fan of the “god will provide” mentality surrounding the decision to have large families.
Obviously as with anything just grain of salt what you hear.

This book is awesome

I’m someone that just got married, bought a house and my wife just told me she’s pregnant. As someone that isn’t all that ready haha. This book really helps you get informed. Things I kind didn’t know with thinks I totally didn’t know about. Totally recommend for new dads or dads to be like me.
