Publisher's summary

"You’ll find yourself listening to the suspenseful reading by Olivia Dowd and Thomas Judd way past your bedtime."—Jersey's Best

The multimillion-copy New York Times bestselling author B.A. Paris returns to her heartland of gripping psychological suspense in The Therapist—a powerful tale of a house that holds a shocking secret.

When Alice and Leo move into a newly renovated house in The Circle, a gated community of exclusive houses, it is everything they’ve dreamed of. But appearances can be deceptive…

As Alice is getting to know her neighbors, she discovers a devastating secret about her new home, and begins to feel a strong connection with Nina, the therapist who lived there before.

Alice becomes obsessed with trying to piece together what happened two years before. But no one wants to talk about it. Her neighbors are keeping secrets and things are not as perfect as they seem…

Enjoyable!

I read a lot of other reviews that said the story was predictable, so maybe it’s me, but I did not see much of it coming. I enjoyed listening and thought the narrator had a great voice. I will agree with some other reviewers that there were a lot of characters and at times it was hard to keep track but don’t let that deter you from choosing this book. This wasn’t one of BA Paris’ top books but it was still really good.

great story line.

lots of assumptions makes for many suspects so it's unclear until the end who's the killer.

Caught off guard!

I thought I knew what was going to happen and who the culprit was, but Paris did such a good job keeping the details and story moving.

Highly recommend!

One of the best books I’ve come across in a long time. Excellent characters & unpredictable plot twists. Narrator did a great job. This was the first B.A Paris book for me & it certainly won’t be the last!

Come on Alice!!

Cringey and unbearably painful and gullible are words I’d use to describe Alice! She was incredibly ditzy and made assumptions the entire book. She stressed me out! I like to find something likable about the main character but there was nothing about Alice I liked!

I think this is her best book yet!

I am always very cautious listening to B. A. Paris’s books because Behind Closed Doors, despite being very well written, really traumatized me, and it wasn’t until The Dilema, where I could enjoy her writing, without feeling sick.

The Therapist has many plot twists and is fast paced. The narrator(s) were great - Olivia Dowd narrated 98% of the book and was well suited to each character. I will be looking out for other books narrated by her.

I’m glad I listened to the book and I recommend it.

Prey to Love and Secrets Held

Oh Alice, this woman drove me crazy at times. I could not understand her intense fastinated with Nina, once she learned of her murder. It really irek me that Alice lied to Leo and her neighbors but pushed Leo away because he withheld the the murder that happened in their new house. Professind she was open and honest with Leo when they first met...was she though? Alice refused to believe Oliver has killed his wife. She behaved as if she knew both Nina & Oliver. Tamsin, who really was Nina's best friend was offended by Alice's insistence on asking about Nina, Oliver and their relationship. The Circle's female neighbors almost seem cultish But Alice's wants to be their friends very badly. At times, it felt like Alice constant acting like a wounded victim because Leo lied to her got annoying. Thompson, the PI who crashed the gate party (house warming drinks) and asked her help him solve the murder of Nina,. Why did he only question Alice and not Leo? Why did he always visit Alice when she home alone. Why didn't Alice notice he manages to enter the circle without being buzzed in. The last 4 chapters of the story the pace did pick up. The story is still a good one, B.A. Paris wrote characters that possibly could be the killer because of Circle's secrets. Despite the seemingly slow pace, I still wanted to know what happened to Nina, who is the stranger of the nightime visits and was she ever going to forgive Leo.

Takes Time

Overall a good book. However, it takes time before the story really kicks in. At the beginning, I kept having to go back because I would get lost in my thoughts instead of the book. I reminded myself, the writing of BA Paris usually it’s good towards the middle of the book. That was the case again. So if you don’t mind having to wait then it is a good read.
