About this listen

Romily

You know what I'd like to know? Where the hell my romantic, how-we-got-engaged story is. Am I going to get it any time soon? Where is my big ass diamond?

Unfortunately, all that romance-novel-level relationship angst gets put on (indefinite) hold when my beloved son, Bellamy, is targeted by who knows who was poisoned and then abducted by a wolf-ish person I kinda like. Am I going to get my kid back? You betcha. The question is, how many people does Fox have to kill first?

The Trouble With Trying to Save an Assassin is an M/M paranormal romance with plenty of sass, gore, and questionable decision-making skills (and now there are tiny tables, too).

The family grows!!

I love this series, and it's a real treat to have it performed by Kevin Earlywine - his range is really impressive.

The banter, spice, and shenanigans continue in this book (Romily is a treasure) and are just as fun (if not moreso) as in book 1.

The world building continues, and the cast expands in fun ways.

Avoiding spoilers - some meta-plot leads to an incident that is mid resolution at the end of the book. I somehow forgot the big cliffhanger, lol. The good news is that the text version of book 3 is published, so the resolution read, just not listened to quite yet.

I love the lighthearted nonsense of this series that still manages to have some pretty fantastic heart.

Light and fun

Great plot, lots of action, feisty characters. The way the MC handles his disability (mute puns are fun!) and the expressions and body language he expresses are hysterical. Loved the fun and cheeky way the main character speaks to the reader every once in a while, pulling them into the story fluidly. How many mute people could effectively capture the heart of a bada$$ assassin, claim another (MUCH older) one as their son, call the female avatar of good “Daddy” (he’s her sweet sugar baby!) and pick up a buff, innocent, daft man as his pup? Yeah. It’s that kind of book. Kudos to a writer has created a mute masterpiece- carrying the funny and sweetly snarky vibe (without becoming overdone or just plain juvenile) from the first through the end of a second amazing book!

One of the worst books I've ever read.

I had to return this. It was absolutely awful.

Backing up, I read book 1 and really liked it. It was cute, original and had a unique take on good vs evil, paranormal creatures and some good insight into the plight of being disabled and homeless. About a year later, the audio was released and I scooped it up, enjoying that as well.

My first experience with reading book 2 did not go well. The author starts by chastising the reader because of something, which immediately set a tone of negativity. That was followed by basically nothing but an adolescent boy's fetish fever dream. It's nonstop, ridiculous sex. It's not even good, and Romily and Fox throw down at every opportunity, no matter how inappropriate. It was a total turn-off. I could not force myself to read past the halfway point. I'm not sure there was even any plot in there.

Now, I see the release of the audio and, despite misgivings, decided to try it. Big mistake. BIG. On top of the amateur porn, there are more confusing sections that aren't bad if you are reading it, but hard to sort out on the audio. I'm referring to all the texting being "read" from names for characters that change depending on whose phone is being used and how that person has named these people in their phone. If you think this is confusing, try listening to it.

I couldn't get past 50% yet again, but others have said it gets dark, someone gets tortured, none of the plot points go anywhere, lots of unanswered questions, and on and on.

This book is an unmitigated disaster, and now that prices have gone up, I recommend you save the cash or credit and don't waste them here.

Not at all recommended.
