Quite short

The book was short, and I thought it could have contained a lot more defined information. Some of the things inside seemed inaccurate and potentially offensive. At one point in the beginning of the book, the emotional abuse was referred to as a condition. While some things were worthwhile, I found it overall unsatisfying.

It's wordy but informative.

It was very wordy and could have been shortened in many parts, but informative. I bought the book to listen to all the information and that is what was included. I any informative book it becomes a challenge to stay focused.

It has a lot of perks.

The book had a lot of perks: good information (and a lot of it!), coping mechanisms, etc. But it used a lot of norms (name calling/sarcasm) as examples of emotional abuse. These are things that everyone does regularly to friends and loved ones. Me for example: I use sarcasm and name calling on a regular basis. Because of those things, I feel that while the book may be sound, it tends to overexaggerate.

It can be used in any situation.

Love that it didn’t simply focus on relationship emotional abuse, but also abuse within workplace, friendships and other social situations. It is a harsh reality that emotional abuse is seen everywhere and not only in relationships. It did not focus specifically on any group of people, which allowed me to envision myself in the relationship I was questioning.

Commending the narrator as well.

I felt like the woman who told this story was the perfect fit. She was empathetic and good at explaining the situation. Until now, I have never read an audiobook, but she did good at reading. There will be a lot of things I need to try to make sure I avoid these situations and I hope everything works! I cannot wait to read more books on this same topic and see how everything else compares.

Captured my attention.

After reading this book, I realized I was facing emotional abuse in many areas of my life. I suspected one, but had never considered this to be prevailing in all parts of my life. From work to family life, emotional abuse is something I have learned to tolerate and overlook for years. I can now confront it and take the weight off my shoulders. I cannot thank this author enough for bringing this to my attention.

Entirely informative.

I found that I not only disliked the woman’s voice, which seemed extremely whiny and lacked emotion. She also read extremely slow and I had a difficult time staying focused on the story when she spoke so slowly but changing the speed to 1.25X helped. This was entirely informative and an overall good book, but the voice was the largest downfall.

This is a good book.

It is something that helped me a lot. With emotional problems. I have not been emotionally abused but this taught me a lot about the emotional abuse. And there were even ways to avoid and get rid of it before hooks dig in too deep. I wish this was a book I could put on my shelf and read, but listening to it is good.

Great Book, Slow Voice

There was a lot of information to take in during this, but the narrator spoke SO slowly that it was hard to stay focused. It was extremely informative when looking at the types of emotional abuse. The book didn’t get far into the emotions of it all, which was the only downfall.
