Critic reviews

"Julia Whelan reads the novel in her low, pleasant voice, moving down a register to capture Richard's infuriating condescension and lightening slightly for the younger Emma. With its perfidious turns, this escapist entertainment is a fine example of the 21st century's more cynical version of the O. Henry ending." (The Washington Post)

"Readers who were enthralled by B.A. Paris's Behind Closed Doors and Gillian Flynn's Gone Girl will love the skewed psychology and shifting perspectives in this domestic thriller." (Library Journal)

"A fiendishly clever romantic thriller in the vein of Gone Girl and The Girl on the Train. This one will keep you guessing." (Anita Shreve, New York Times best-selling author of The Stars Are Fire)

A Dud!

Would you try another book from Sarah Pekkanen and Greer Hendricks and/or Julia Whelan?

No.

Has The Wife Between Us turned you off from other books in this genre?

No. It's been done way better.

What three words best describe Julia Whelan’s performance?

Fine for the most part, but when she lowered her voice to do the men, it was laughable. She sounded like the ogre in a kid's book

Could you see The Wife Between Us being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

Hollywood could likely pare it down and spice it up.

Any additional comments?

The only reason I listened to the end was in the hope that something interesting would eventually happen. The feeling I had from this book was that these two writers got together and said, "Hey, those psychological thrillers about dysfunctional marriages are really popular. We should do one. How hard can it be?" The twists were ludicrous. The characters were unlikable. It was greatly padded - how many times do we need to hear about Richard's citrus cologne? I'm at a loss to see how this has been so highly rated.

Was just ok for me

I cannot pin point what I did or didn’t like about this book .. it’s was just okay for me.. the reader of this book should not be doing the “man”parts of the reading .. I found it extremely annoying .. she made the “man” parts sound like he was just stupid . Please have someone else read those parts .

A Twisty One!!

Great book. I had part 1 sorta figured out in the first 2 hours or so but didn't expect everything else. It's in the style of Gone Girl but different plot of course. I recommend to anyone!

Christian Grey without the sex room

The story line was decent but predictable -- and very long and I was so happy when it was over.

Incredibly similar to "The Last Mrs. Parrish"

If you could sum up The Wife Between Us in three words, what would they be?

I am a fan of the narrator Julia Whelan which is why I purchased the book, but I kept feeling that this story was just too familiar. There were a few good plot twists but overall it was a similar retelling of the rich controlling husband with the young naive bride. Found myself fast forwarding to hold my attention.

Ughh...

The authors did a good job writing this book but I’m soooo tired of these “Is she or isn’t she crazy” stories. I think I will have to avoid the bestseller recommendations for a while.

IT WAS OK.

The book was kind of confusing to follow. I got midway through the book before I began to catch on. I liked the end of the book, it was a huge plot twist.

Obvious twist, too many narratives

First part of story dragged on. The main twist felt obvious to me so it was not fun. Then all the twists at the end seemed overdone and not all of the stories were tied up nicely, lots of loose ends and questions. Julia Whelan does a great narration which is why I probably listened to the entire thing. Perhaps it is better in print as the narrative changes a couple of times and it is kind of awkward in audiobook. Overall, not worth the hype if you ask me but a decent read if you have nothing else to do.
