Publisher's summary

Will’s journey from naïve apprentice to a mature wizard is almost complete, and his ever-growing mastery has reached unseen heights.

But his power does not exist in a vacuum. His rising star threatens to eclipse the existing powers and a new balance must be found, one that either accepts his primacy or extinguishes his light.

After Will’s resounding successes in the war with Darrow, the king plots to eliminate his young rival. Driven to desperation, Will is forced to negotiate for scraps between four brokers of power:

An ancient lich driven by vengeance, the fae queen—to whom all are just pawns in a deadly game, a nervous lord of Hell—because Will may have killed his predecessor, twice, and a primal beast—feared above all.

With mortal enemies as his allies, Will must survive to face the king...and the deadly secret he plans to unleash. Ancient foes have risen and the final battle has begun. With the world hanging in the balance, king and wizard clash, but only one can wear the Wizard’s Crown.

Fun, Lots of Action & entertaining as hell

Again I found myself snickering or laughing out loud several times during the book. The old man in the ring reminds me about me talking to my son lol so made me connect even more. I will listen to this series again… it was so good!!

Epic ending

It is a great end to the series, but in Manning fashion, loose ends and macabre emotions. I do like the happier endings which make his books a little hard for me although his books are fantastic.

the end so sad

I enjoyed the book very much, it was a bit abrupt of an ending but I could understand the author wanting to finish the series.
there is only so much father he could have taken it without making the character a minor God...

warning the ending is.... nope not going to tell you if you're into the books as I am you'll finish it anyway and you'll know as well and if not well you don't deserve to know.

just spend the credit you know as well as I do it's worth it.

Unfortunate ending to a great story

I’m sure you’ll see the other reviews that basically say the same but this book felt odd listening to all the character changes the fights seemed meh and the final battle was a disappointment I honestly hope there’s another book to deal with it all but i honestly don’t expect one and it’s sad. If you can get over those things it’s a great book but not the best

Author failed this series

Terrible ending to a good series. Character development thrown out the window. Build up of resources and allies are forgotten.

disappointed

I'm a little disappointed honestly
it felt like he rushed the whole book for ending this series
William deserve to be happy
and it felt like everything went to the drain.
everyone lost their character development
they became what they hated
no one had a happy ending it was just bad.
and then killing so many characters was too much.
for example I never found out what happened to Rob ?
what about tail two...does she become human? who is the new fay Lord? what about the god dam cat?
there's just so many unanswered questions.
i was really looking forward to this book and now I'm sad.
i literally listen to all 4 books again to I can remember everything fresh and enjoy this book
bit I'm disappointed.

Definitely hard for me to leave this world for now. Might need to relisten to this series again soon.

Lots of learning, action, adventure all wrapped in a great story with a fabulous narrator.

Need to stay til at least chapter 22. adult ending

mild spoilers: the series ends after building up the reality of power corrupting, and the power of the enemy. Will isn't perfect nor is he all powerful, when facing opponents as old and prepared as they were, there wasn't going to be a picture perfect ending where everyone rides into the sunset. It's a dark story reflective of the reality that it's possible to make no mistakes, and still lose more than you could have ever feared. I doubt a 6th book is coming.
