Story
"Imagine you have the power to fly. Pretty awesome, right? Imagine you have the power to levitate or crush something the size of a Winnebago. Equally awesome. Now ... here's the catch: having the power means you are bonded irreversibly to a smartass, sociopathic alien life form. Not so awesome. So, what would you do with all of that power? The way I figured it, I had one of two options: Option #1) Use it to commit crime or Option #2) Use it to fight crime. My name is Gabe Garrison and I chose Option #2."

Story
When a spaceship landed in an open field in the quiet mill town of Sorrow Falls, Massachusetts, everyone realized humankind was not alone in the universe. With that realization everyone freaked out for a little while. Or almost everyone. The residents of Sorrow Falls took the news pretty well. This could have been due to a certain local quality of unflappability, or it could have been that in three years the ship did exactly nothing other than sit quietly in that field, and nobody understood the full extent of this nothing the ship was doing better than the people who lived right next door.

Story
In Beatrice Prior's dystopian Chicago, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue - Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is - she can't have both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone, including herself.

So while his new home isn’t perfect, it’s livable. The rent is low, the property managers are friendly, and the odd little mysteries don’t nag at him too much. At least, not until he meets Mandy, his neighbor across the hall, and notices something unusual about her apartment. And Xela’s apartment. And Tim’s. And Veek’s.

Story
The story begins in 1962. On a rocky patch of the sun-drenched Italian coastline, a young innkeeper, chest-deep in daydreams, looks out over the incandescent waters of the Ligurian Sea and spies an apparition: a tall, thin woman, a vision in white, approaching him on a boat. She is an actress, he soon learns, an American starlet, and she is dying. And the story begins again today, half a world away, when an elderly Italian man shows up on a movie studio's back lot - searching for the mysterious woman he last saw at his hotel decades earlier.

It was 1970 in a defeated Rhode Island fishing town. Vietnam and Nixon dominated the national news. Both the near and distant future looked bleak. But they were five inseparable high school friends with something incredible in common: an unwavering resolve to look after each other no matter what hell life threw at them. And they were on a mission. The plan was simple: Go off the grid before they turned 18 to avoid the draft. They’d sell some grass, stack some cash, then head west and start a commune. In The Worst of You, just-wed architects Timo and Nia flee a murder scene, setting in motion a chain reaction of lies and betrayals that threaten to unravel everything they have built together. Twisted and propulsive, this thriller is told from the alternating perspectives of the couple and those close to them on Williwaw Island, each with their own motive to use the outcome of the murder case to their advantage. When a huge storm sweeps up the coast, trapping everyone on tiny Williwaw Island, it’s a race against time—and the elements — to stop the murderer from striking again.

Story
Three months ago, Tansy Bloom quit monster hunting. Since then, she’s been trying to live a normal life (whatever that means), but ending up single, unemployed, and living on a boat outside her godfather’s pub definitely wasn’t part of the plan. So, when Tansy’s ex-husband – fellow monster hunter Rex Barclay – turns up like a bad penny and asks for her help with his latest investigation, Tansy reluctantly agrees. At first, the job appears to be a straightforward monster hunt – following a spate of large creature sightings, Rex believes a werewolf is on the loose in Norfolk.

Intriguing story
What did you love best about The Year the Lake Went Low?
I loved the overall story. I was on the edge with the character trying to unravel the mystery
Who was your favorite character and why?
Davey was great. This is a book that causes a lot of reflection about getting to know the people you love better!
What about Scott Ellis’s performance did you like?
It was steady and I could always tell when there was a different character talking other than Davey. If people think it is slow, they can always increase the speed of the narration.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Get to know the ones you love while you can.

I wasn't sure at first but then it got so good!
I was surprised at some of the language and types of characters. At first I wasn't sure if I liked the book or not but I kept listening. My advise to a listener who finds themselves un-sure about the book, keep listening it gets good, really good! Over all I enjoyed the book. The mystery and questioning around every corner gets better and better. The beginning was just doom in a small town with poor people and drug addicts and then little by little the light comes through and Davey is able to crawl out and away from it all!

Exciting and Suspenseful
Narrator Scott Ellis skillfully masters the dialect of the Oklahoma region. I was caught up in the voices of the many characters and I forgot that there was only one narrator.
Author Bradon Nave had many colorful characters. This thrilling and suspenseful novel will keep you interested and wanting to hear more. I enjoyed the ending

Slow reading of a slow book
If you are one of those people that cannot bare slow narration, then I can’t say this is the book for you. I don’t think slowness is a huge problem, considering audible has a speed change function, but I had to play this book at 1.50 which is quite excessive, even for me. I have listened to other books narrated by Scott Ellis, and I can contend that his other works are much better. Despite the speed issue, the narration is lively and clear.
This book starts off pretty slow moving, but the pace does pick up about half way through. I think I would consider this somewhat more along the lines of slice of [depressing] life. The Year the Lake Went Low wasn’t particularly to my liking, but I still give it 4 stars because it is well written and well researched, and it evokes a lot of emotions, which isn’t that easy to find in books these days.

The year the Lake went low
I was given this audio book free by the author, narrator or publisher in exchange for a unbiased review.
In general the characters were pretty well thought out and believable. The story was good though at times it seemed to lose focus. The book needs some editing as words were used incorrectly and it had grammatical errors. Narration was clear but a bit exaggerated I think.
I did find it interesting that visual descriptions of the female characters were quite descriptive yet the male characters were not. I still am not clear on the appearance of the leading character, also many people in the book described him as having a bright future yet there was no mention of why they would think so.

How the lake solved it
Where does The Year the Lake Went Low rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
I loved the story. It was well written and very interesting.
What did you like best about this story?
The fact that I didn't figure out who did what before it was revealed to us. I tried to figure it out, but was wrong.
Have you listened to any of Scott Ellis’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
This is the first time I have listened to one of his books. I wasn't let down, he did a great job.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Meth is bad...ok?

Very good story. Excellent narration.
The story was very good. It seemed a little slow getting started, but I am glad I hung in there. I truly felt for the main character. The narrator was excellent. It was easy follow and to recognize each character's voice. I felt as if I was right there with them. I look forward to hearing other books narrated by this narrator.

Just so so for me
This was a solid read for me. I found the Romance unnecessary and didn't really add anything to the book for me. I don't know who I would recommend this book too. The only thing that I am positive of is that I would not recommend it to any of my friends who love cats. I received this book at no cost for an honest review

The Year The Lake Went Low
I loved this book for several reasons. It had all the elements I look for in a good storyline - that which brings out a myriad of emotions - that which not only entertains, but makes me think, reflect and feel grateful for my life.
I felt the Narrator did an outstanding job in bringing each character to life. Each character was uniquely distinctive, never leaving me guessing which character was speaking. The story never got slow moving, which is another thing I look for in a good book. I felt like I was right there!
I would highly recommend this book to all adults, especially parents, and to older teens, especially those considering experimenting with drugs.
