Publisher's summary
Theodore Roosevelt was the president who changed America and molded it into the country that we know and love today. He was the man who took the Presidency to new heights and introduced new powers that were designed to tackle many of the pressing issues of the day.
Roosevelt governed at a time where corruption was rife. This book looks at a number of his policies and examines his early life, when so many of his ideas as to how the world should operate were developed. In addition, it looks at the story behind the man himself, from his argumentative ways, to his willingness to tackle lost causes that he believed in.
The story of Theodore Roosevelt is one that teaches us more about the role of the president than any other individual that came before him. His policies brought new rights to workers and protections to the environment. His actions took down large businesses and stopped their attempts to create a monopoly. His decisions changed the course of history, brought the United States into the new century, and built a future upon which it still stands today.

As the broker of the Missouri Compromise and the Compromise of 1850, Henry Clay fought to keep a young nation united when westward expansion and slavery threatened to tear it apart. Yet, despite his talent and achievements, Henry Clay never became president.

Fifty-five men met in Philadelphia in 1787 to write a document that would create a country and change a world: the Constitution. Here is a remarkable rendering of that fateful time, told with humanity and humor. Decision in Philadelphia is the best popular history of the Constitutional Convention; in it, the life and times of 18th-century America not only come alive, but the very human qualities of the men who framed the document are brought provocatively into focus - casting many of the Founding Fathers in a new light.

But according to Nicholas Wapshott, the Reagan/Thatcher relationship was much deeper than an alliance of mutual interests.

Conventional political wisdom views the two most consequential presidents of the 20th century - FDR and Ronald Reagan - as ideological opposites. In Becoming Hitler, award-winning historian Thomas Weber examines Adolf Hitler's time in Munich between 1918 and 1926, the years when Hitler shed his awkward, feckless persona and transformed himself into a savvy opportunistic political operator who saw himself as Germany's messiah. The story of Hitler's transformation is one of a fateful match between man and city. After opportunistically fluctuating between the ideas of the left and the right, Hitler emerged as an astonishingly flexible leader of Munich's right-wing movement.
