Publisher's summary

Space inventor Parks Vambolent pursues a vision of using space resources to benefit humanity but is ill-prepared for the non-technical challenges. Friends and allies join along the way, as he builds toward his ultimate goals. Yet, from project to project, troubles follow. Meanwhile, a clever rival advances, and their competition raises the stakes. Powerful players become involved, accelerating progress while creating complexity. How can Vambolent and his people steer space resource technology to be profitable and beneficial to humanity, instead of just the next exploit of blind ambition?

Engaging story, a bit hard to follow at times.

Books recommended, audiobook, not so much.... (Review by David)

I actually listened to the audiobook for all 3 under my wife's Audible account. I almost switched to reading the books partway through but since I had already committed a credit for the audiobook, I decided to stick it out. I don't regret this decision, but I don't highly recommend the audio version. More on that in a minute.

There is a lot of interesting science and technology in this, which I do not have the personal knowledge to discern whether it is already known to be possible or not, but it mostly sounds feasible. This is what I liked most about this story. A lot of the rest is about the human condition, poverty, greed, environmental issues, and so on. This was blended in a way that made an intriguing story, although it may have been a bit "preachy" at times - but on real issues. Lots of food for thought. If you like a well-developed characters and a story that is big enough to sink your teeth into, I recommend this.

Regarding the audiobook, the author self-narrated this, which is a bit unfortunate. I'm sure it is very expensive to hire voice "talent" to narrate, but there's also a gray area where maybe it's better not to publish it at all if you can't afford a professional. I like the author's voice, but he stumbles on words at times and mis-pronounces some words; plus there seemed to be a technical issue with the audio skipping a few seconds every once in a while throughout the books. (I listen to a lot of audiobooks and have never had this problem, so I don't think it's 'me'). In my humble opinion, the stumbles should have been re-recorded or edited somehow, and the skipping, well, I don't know what caused that - overflowing audio buffers on the computer (or phone?) he recorded on? I honestly hope he makes enough money on these books to upgrade his gear or hire some pros. I plan to read more of his writing but probably no more audiobooks unless the quality is addressed.

well that was.... something.

disclaimer left about 4 hours on book.

this book is very .....well its something. first off technical issues. the editing is amateur work. now the author is also the narrator so that maybe part of the problem. but expect missed words and bad brakes every other paragraph. as for the story itself. about 1/3 of the book is green party propaganda. the main charcter would make a great background charcter in most books of this style. he's a CEO I guess but we never see any business or staff stuff after the first arc and even then he never really interacted with the crews. it all just happens in the background we guess? but if you want a book that preachs captialism bad earth good and the main charcter is a solid meh this books for you. the actual space related stuff was nice though Including problems and solutions faced and found by the mission control and crews. just woulda been better writen as a private venture with a half decent leader.

must read for space solar power fans

the recording was a bit choppy for me. However, it's a good story that will make the listener think about the possibilities of using space solar power.
