Publisher's summary

Most fairytales end with a wedding and a happily-ever-after—but this is no fairytale. The updated and official translation of Under the Oak Tree, the #1 webnovel on MANTA.

Lady Maximilian is the daughter of the powerful Duke Croyso, but she is rarely allowed outside her family’s sprawling castle for fear that her stutter will tarnish their noble name. When she is forced to marry Sir Riftan, a lowborn knight caught in one of her father’s schemes, Maxi doesn’t dare hope for happiness, let alone love. Her stumbling communication and his gruff manner sour their relationship before it can begin, and Riftan leaves without a word the morning after their vows are exchanged.

Now, three years after their disastrous wedding night, Riftan has returned as a war hero. To Maxi’s surprise, despite rumors that he was offered marriage to Princess Agnes, a beautiful and renowned sorceress, Riftan still wants Maxi for his wife. And when he comes to claim her, his longing becomes a desire that bewilders Maxi, even as she is overcome by the scorching heat that Riftan’s presence ignites within her. As she learns to navigate the intricacies of her new life, Maxi will find herself and her courage, and discover that she is anything but powerless.

This volume collects chapters 1-76 of the original webnovel by Suji Kim.

One of my favorite stories

I'm so excited that one of my favorite web novels is now an audiobook. I feel like the audio adds more to the novel. The narration was great!

I can't wait for the rest of the novels to be released.

loved it!!!@

The detail to the story characters! The emotional roller coaster the reader is on. One moment you're in love with the main characters, the next you're interested in a new character. Every character played their role correctly and how vital these roles were. Versatility with characters and their development bring a sense of life and realism to the story. The detail in the writing makes it easy to picture this fairy-tale world and all the elaborate things depicted. This is an emotional detailed master piece. I've already pre-ordered the second novel and I cant wait to listen to it. I've also purchased the hard copies of the novel and webtoon books. Thank you for this story.

Riftan is daddy

I absolutely adore this series. I love the light novel most and would highly recommend reading the additional novel that tells the story from Riftan's POV. It brings a lot of depth and clarity to the story. It is still available to read online.
I was super excited for the audiobook but am a little disappointed on the delivery. A lot of the male voices sound similar and are hard to distinguish. Duel narration would've been great. However, for those of us who love the series, it can be overlooked.
Still highly recommend giving it a listen. The manwha is also very good.

Great choice for voice actor

I’m familiar with the first translation and although I preferred some of the first translation to the new… I still enjoyed the story and was happy to experience it this time in audio version. I have already got the second audio on presale. Can’t wait. As always I love these characters and this world. I would read 10 more books if she would write them. I hope Riftans POV will get an audiobook. I would love to have a male/female co star voice actors together on this instead of the interpretation of a male voice from female. Nothing personal to the current voice actor (she did wonderful) but a personal preference I don’t much like men interpretations of a woman’s voice either in audiobooks. It’s much more engaging when there are two voices.

If you loved the web toon or novel ♥️♥️♥️

I have read both the web toon and novel so I really liked the book as well. Can’t wait for the second part to come out.
Also I know how Riftan comes out looking sometimes, it helps if you read his point of view (found in the web novel), it helps you understand his reactions.

Needed more emotion

I know this story is chock full of emotional scenes and everything, but I wished that the reader had put more emphasis in the differences in tone between Riftin and Maxi. Some times Riftin sounds like Maxi in the longer bits and there isn’t a ton of emotion when Riftin is being read. I had hoped that a man would at least read Riftin’s part, since she read Maxi’s part really well. As someone who has this playing in the background, it’s kinda hard to get immersed in the story if I’m struggling to sometimes get the feel for a scene or who’s talking between Riftin and everyone else who isn’t Maxi.
