Publisher's summary

All Jenna wants is to grace the NYC skyline with a building of her design. But to do it, she must tear down a neighborhood riddled with dangerous criminals who will stop at nothing to claim vengeance.

Sent away from the threat for a week-long tour in the wilds of Colorado, Jenna meets a stranger so intense her desire is equally mixed with fear. Tall, built, and incredibly handsome, he isn't what he seems.

After a mission gone badly wrong, Josh left the SEALs without looking back. Haunted by his past, he hides his identity in order to pick up the pieces. But when he meets the sassy architect, the control he tries so desperately to hang on to, flees.

As their mutual attraction and constant battle of wills sets their bodies aflame, danger once again finds Jenna. Josh must face his past if he ever hopes to bring Jenna out of the wilds alive.

Action, adventure, suspense, romance...

What did you love best about Unexpected Hero?

I loved how the lead character didn't back down and fought for what she believed in, all while being a flawed character. The characters in the story weren't perfect, all dealing with their own issues as the faced challenges.

What other book might you compare Unexpected Hero to and why?

Can't think of any at the moment.

Which character – as performed by Samara Naeymi – was your favorite?

I liked Jenna - there was variety and depth to her "voice."

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Neighborhood improvement? Not for the neighbors...or the mob...who will come out ahead?

Any additional comments?

Really enjoyed this story - both listening to and reading. The characters all had issues you could relate to making them more real. I enjoyed how they worked through their issues as they faced unexpected challenges.

Wow! Another grab you read

If you could sum up Unexpected Hero in three words, what would they be?

Excellent series beginning. I enjoyed the sexual tension buildup between Jenna and Josh. This book has drama centered on women without making the women pityingly weak creatures. Yes, they are in unfamiliar territory in the woods but they are not weak. It's funny and serious. I love the way the author writes the alpha males. They are flawed but so dependable and HOT.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Unexpected Hero?

I never begin a series unless it's finished. I simply don't have patience to wait months. I read the books. Then I got to listen to this audible version. I want the others made into audible. I would so buy them. I did receive this audible book from the author. I freely give my review. I honestly love the story and this audible version.

What about Samara Naeymi’s performance did you like?

Narrator was great and only enhanced an already good story.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Nothing was wrong with the narration.

Any additional comments?

Loved the dynamics of Jenna and Erika's friendship. Witty, snarky dialogue kept me reading.

4 1/2 stars 🌟

I really liked the narrative of this audiobook, it really kept my attention on the story. The main action seems to happen near the end of the book, but the lead up is a great journey!

Great narration!

Would you consider the audio edition of Unexpected Hero to be better than the print version?

I can't say for sure if the audio is better than the print as I have not read this book in print. However I really enjoy how stories come to life when listening to them.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Unexpected Hero?

The attraction between Jenna and Josh. Their chemistry was perfect.

Which character – as performed by Samara Naeymi – was your favorite?

Jenna was my favorite character in the book. I love how sassy she is!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, however I had to spread it out over a week. Great story line!

WARNING: NOT book 1. Should say part 1.

It was a good listen and I enjoyed it very much. But I don't like cliffhangers. When I read a "book" I expect a conclusion. It would not bother me if it was listed as a part 1, which in my opinion it is, not book 1. I just wanted to give a heads up.

Loved the story

I enjoyed the story and the characters. A couple of the guys were easy to dislike, which I think was the author's goal. The lead characters were easy to pull for, and it was an entertaining story. Only real complaint is that the narrator didn't do a great job with the different voices, some of them were annoying to me. I wish the 2nd book was available as an audiobook, but I bought the Kindle version because I wanted to find out how the story ends.

They both have had past that has damaged them. I have to admit when the voice came on saying it was ending I yelled NO not yet. I love this author. the narrator was really good too.

hook line and sinker

Summer Willows spins a tale that is panty melting hot while keeping you on the edge of your seat. I will have to finish this series to assuage my curiosity of what Jenna and Josh will have to face to ensure her safety and bring Josh back to living life.

Really Good Story, Really Well Performed

This story was really good, it pulled me in from the very beginning. The author gives us really good descriptions and builds the plot really well. I think I fell a little in love with Josh he was so withdrawn with everyone but Jax's (his best bud from his navy seal days) and Jenna who herself is so damaged she only really trust her best friend Erica.

The relationship between Jenna and Josh is so good for both of them and is what they both seem to need. The sex is hot but not graphic so nobody should find listening to this book too risky.

I know this book is part of a trilogy but you can listen to this part and enjoy it for itself but I know I really want to find out what happens in the next book. I have to know if Josh and Jenna are going to get their HEA. Will the building get built, will Lewis get what's coming to him - so many questions.....
