Publisher's summary
The wanderer Red Kian has ruled Skai as Regent, but now it is time for him to step down. War clouds are gathering. Maedun sorcerers have taken the continent, and Saesnesi raiders are pillaging the islands.
But Kian has three sons. One is a prince of Skai blood, one is a wizard touched by Tyadda fire, and one is a dreamer who longs to unite the Celi against their enemies. Who will inherit the rune blade known as Kingmaker? Who will have the power to confront the Black Riders who bring darkness like a cloak to cover the land?
The answer will surprise you. Just as it surprises them.

Story
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Story
Three months ago, Tansy Bloom quit monster hunting. Since then, she’s been trying to live a normal life (whatever that means), but ending up single, unemployed, and living on a boat outside her godfather’s pub definitely wasn’t part of the plan. So, when Tansy’s ex-husband – fellow monster hunter Rex Barclay – turns up like a bad penny and asks for her help with his latest investigation, Tansy reluctantly agrees. At first, the job appears to be a straightforward monster hunt – following a spate of large creature sightings, Rex believes a werewolf is on the loose in Norfolk.

Memorable
If you could sum up Western King in three words, what would they be?
Worth you time.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Western King?
There were so many, one of them when Tiernyn questioned his honor with the sword.
What about Austin Vanfleet’s performance did you like?
As in the past he brought the characters to life. His accent was perfect for this story. I believe he made the story worth listening to.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
When Tiernyn asked Donaugh to be his regent and when Keylan lost his family. So sad.
Any additional comments?
A fantastic continuation of a new world you want to be a part of. Moved along quickly, did not linger to long on the battle scenes. Romance was there too, but not anything a young adult could not listen to. At my age, been there, heard that, lets get on with the story. This 2nd book in the series is worth it. Looking forward to the next.

A great 2nd book in the series
I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
This was a great follow up to the book 1. I was equally drawn into this book, as I was with the first. It picks up seemlessly where book 1 left off. The writing and narration was just as good as the first. I will definitely look for more in this series.

A well written book with a great narrator.
Sometimes, I have found that the narrator does not match the book, not so in this case. I felt they were made for each other. The narrator has a bigger role when narrating a book. A book can be great but if the wrong narrator is chosen, then the book is not as good because the narrator starts to annoy you.
In this book the plot flowed really well, there is suspence, intrigue and some action. I was hooked from the beginning.
I have not read/listened to book one but I didn't feel like I was missing anything.
I would highly recommend this book.

Fascinating listen
What did you like about this audiobook?
Top half
How has the book increased your interest in the subject matter?
The moment Donnel's soul mate returned to aid him
Does the author present information in a way that is interesting and insightful, and if so, how does he achieve this?
The story line was exciting throughout the book and left you without prior knowledge of what was going to happen next.
What did you find wrong about the narrator's performance?
Nothing. The narrator did an outstanding job
Do you have any additional comments?
This book was provided free of charge in exchange for a review.
The book continued the saga started in book one. The time difference was well done and the life of the three brothers and the sister were well explained in the story.
It is hoped that there will be a third book as many questions remained at the end of the book.
Fascinating story well written and well performed.

Keeps your interest
Great story, with realistic characters with powers they were born with and the land they wish to keep from those who want to destroy it and take it over. Each character feels as though you know them and can feel their anger, sorrow, and pain. This novel keeps you going until the bitter end and wanting to know what happens in the next book. A good sign of a wonderful writer who picked a talented narrator to bring it to life.

Not as strong as first book
Excellent narration, glad they stuck with the same guy as the first book. The progression of the story was a little awkward to me, not very clear what the characters' purposes or direction was. The love story with the deaf woman was sweet and touching. Still very interested in following books.

Slow to start but worth it
You definitely want to read the first "Rune Blades of Celi" book before this one. The first book can stand alone but this second book builds on the first.
I listened to this one immediately after the first. Maybe that is why I had trouble getting started. Several chapters in I was completely involved and racing for the end. Again the story ends at an appropriate place to complete the story and still leave room for the next in the series. Anxiously waiting for more.
Austin Vanfleet did an excellent job narrating this book as well as the first one. His voice is perfect and well suited to the story.
