• Maybe You Just Need to Rest and Not Produce + An Announcement
    Nov 28 2023

The word that God gave me for this season is Gentle. I highly recommend asking God if he has a word for you right now-whether that is a word of the year or for a season.

Right now God is asking me to slow down and not try to produce anything. Winter seasons can be an invitation to rest but they aren't usually our favorite. We would rather be doing, be achieving, be producing. What if God's invitation to you is similar to what he's extending to me: "stop. slow down. you don't have to force anything right now. abide in me. and that's enough."

Isaiah 30:15 hits home with the invitation to rest and salvation and strength when it ends with "but you would have none of it". I hope we can be people who will accept God's good gifts that he extends to us.

This will also be the last podcast episode of Season 3!
And the announcement is that I am not sure when the next season is going to start. Listen in to hear more about this pause.

  • Should You Quit Something or Start Something?
    Oct 17 2023

210 There's a tension that I feel like I often hold here: Should you quit something or do you need to start something?

Oftentimes we're doing too much of the things that don't fill our cup. So we need to quit something at the same time we need to start something else. If you want to confidently be yourself there are things that you need to shed so that you have the space for what is actually for you.

In today's podcast episode, I share more about this tension that we feel and give loads of practical advise on how to make these decisions when we feel like we're doing too much but feel pulled to start something new!

I want to give you practical steps to evaluate and take action so that you can be off the performance hamster wheel and do the work that you're called to, no the work you "should" do.

  • Wanting People to Like You is Actually Not a Bad Thing
    Oct 10 2023

209 - As Christians navigate living in a fallen world, I see many grapple with whether or not we should trust other people. The suggestion seems to be to only ever trust God and then we'll protected from harm from people. But this isn't good theology or a best practice, it's a form of self-preservation. We're allowed to have expectations of people and we're allowed to desire to be cared for by people. There's a lot of shame I see in Christians as they wrestle with their desire to be loved, liked, and cared for.

You're desire to be loved and accepted exactly as you are is not a problem to be fixed, it's a need to be tended to. It's also important to be aware of how we're going about getting this need tended to. It's easy to make ourselves smaller or to be easy-going in an attempt to control whether or not we will be accepted. We don't want to rock the boat or give anyone an excuse to walk away which can lead to people pleasing and doing everything in our power to avoid them leaving.

Each of us is magnetic. We attract and we repel. When we live in authenticity and know our worth we attract people who value us and accept us-they are "our people" and we also repel those who don't get us or who don't accept us right where we're at. And this is a good thing!! It's tricky to learn but it's so darn freeing.

If you want to deepen your connection to God and yourself so that you can have stronger relationships with others, Emily's Connected course is for you!

208 - In this episode of the Abundant Grace podcast, host Emily Lewis shares her personal journey of letting go of religiosity and finding freedom in radical grace. She discusses how religiosity can feel like a burden and hinder our personal connection with God. Emily also talks about the societal pressures women face to constantly achieve and conform, which can further complicate their relationship with themselves and God. She shares her own experience of trying to please God through checking boxes and meeting expectations, and how discovering God's unconditional love allowed her to let go of toxic relationships and embrace her true identity as a beloved daughter of God.
