  • Ep.152 I Deciding to Quit Drinking: A Life-Changing Switch to Non-Alcoholic Craft Beer with Joe Chura
    Jul 31 2024
Why drink non-alcoholic beer if I don’t have a drinking problem? Why are the most intentional people making the switch? Joe Chura, Founder of Go Brewing, shares his experience with alcohol and how it led to founding a non-alcoholic craft beer company with his wife. From starting in his garage and taking regular, incremental risks along the way, he’s built his latest business dream from the ground up. KEY TOPICS Why people don’t want to claim a “drinking problem.” Joe and Heather’s decision to start a non-alcoholic brewing company. Making business decisions that prioritize quality over ease. As a teenager, he drank sporadically, sometimes just once a week, other times six or seven in a night, but never considered it a problem. That changed in his 40s during COVID. Joe and his wife, Heather, drank more, made poor dietary choices, and formed unhealthy habits to cope with the pandemic. Eventually, their health metrics indicated a change was needed. One hungover day, they pledged to stop drinking for 75 days. Initially tough, Joe's cravings gradually subsided. Some nights, though, he still craved a beer, leading him to non-alcoholic options that satisfied him. As the world reopened, Joe and Heather struggled to maintain their new habits in social settings dominated by alcohol. They enjoyed bars but missed non-alcoholic options. This sparked the idea of Go Brewing: non-alcoholic and low-alcohol beer with a taproom featuring great music and entertainment. In less than 18 months, Joe and Heather built an incredible team, created numerous recipes, and collaborated with top brewers and consultants. Now, they've opened their doors both online and at their taproom.
