• You Are Known
    Jan 22 2024

I have aphasia. I am privileged because I can speak even though it is difficult sometimes, but I can get my message out. Imagine that you have your mouth is covered and you can only making intelligible sounds or even no sounds at all. And imagine that maybe you can't write or draw a picture. How do you let people know what you need? Or want? How do you let people know that you are in there? How do you let people know who you am? Do you love the indoors? Do you like comedy or fantasy movies? Do you like opera or Rush? Do you like coffee or tea, do you watch the news routinely or do you love a good potiical debate? Do you go to a church or a synagogue or do you align with the teachings of Budda?

You are in there. I see you. And you are known, I promise.

  • Learning the Language of Aphasia
    Dec 19 2023

A friend told me once that he, having learned French for years, that he was legit bilingual once he had started dreaming in French.
I dreamed in the language of aphasia. I was speaking garbled, and hesitantly. I am dreaming in a language that only I am fluent, and I are in fluently and in a language that I never hope to know again.

    Dec 9 2023

Most of my missing words came back in with a few seconds or with an a conversation. But there are some words that have become a white box of nothingness. There is no word. As if I've never heard it, and yet as I'm sure that I once them gone.
When the other missing words and the I invite their being congratulations and even think I deserve it. But in those, the words that have lived an the white boxes for hours and days, I'm not feeling to celebrate. Or to feeling celebrating.
I'm experiencing grief and they worry that one day my brain will only filled by white, empty boxes where words once lived.
