  • Jen's Story
    Jul 16 2024

Welcome back to the "You're Not Alone Podcast"!

Today Morgan and Val are joined by their friend, Jen Nicoll, a stroke SURVIVOR and all around go getter that doesn't let anything stop her!

Jen shares her story of waking up in the middle of the night, knowing something was definitely wrong. Her husband moved quickly to call for help and Jen woke up two days later in ICU. Jen had sustained a serious stroke at 35 years old. This amazing wife and mother to then 3 year old, Jessica, knew she was not going to let anything stop her from being a successful mom, wife, and community leader.

Jen worked hard in speech, occupational, and physical therapies for many years to move forward with her life. A chance encounter at a Walmart led to meeting Dan Zimmerman, founder of Spokes Fighting Strokes. Since then she has become the Phoenix manager of the organization, also guiding many new riders across town on adapted trikes.

Jen has become an amazing advocate for not only local stroke survivors, but she is also reaching communities with her TikTok page, @one.handed.cooker , where Jen posts videos of delicious recipies she makes one-handed on her Blackstone grill! Make sure you give her a follow!!

If you would like more information about Spokes Fighting Strokes, you can find them on Facebook at Spokes Adaptive Cycling, or visit their website at spokesfightingstrokes.org

  • Jimmy's Story
    Jul 2 2024

Welcome back to You're Not Alone Podcast!

This week Morgan and Val sat down to talk with Jimmy, who shares his incredible life story. Jimmy played all the sports, nothing could stop him - until he took a hit to the leg by a ball during a game. He tried to shake off the pain until he couldn't anymore, and a quick trip into the doctor's office turned into a cancer diagnosis.

Jimmy shares what it was like to go through his journey, becoming an amputee as a teen, how he and his family moved forward, and how he refused to accept being seen as different and charged through barriers that might try to limit him, both professionally and socially. With passion, an amazing spirit and support from his friends, Jimmy continued on with sports and has always found a way to do anything he ever wanted to do.

Great heartwarming stories

I love this podcast! They tell stories of people who have disabilities and how they navigate through their lives. If you have a condition or are taking care of someone who has one, this is a great resource to listen to!
