Story
On Friday, June 21, Detective Simon Farge, chief investigator with the Plainsland Police Department's Missing Persons Division, opened an envelope, addressed in pencil and bearing no return address. The content of the envelope was a short letter, also written in pencil, on three-hole notebook paper. The handwriting appeared to be that of a child, still learning the art of cursive, and of course, unsigned. The note was short and to the point. "Dear Mr. Farge, Look for Sally Morgan in Overland Park in a trailer by the lake."

Twenty-one year old Tom Jewett has embarked on a new career. His new job as a cub journalist with the Traber Herald sends him and his wife, Sally, to Traber, Colorado, the birthplace of Tom's great grandfather. Story
A stately Victorian mansion built by the Reverend Michael Mariah Taylor in 1880, its living room floors stained with the blood of at least 19 people, has just been purchased by Wade and Anne Robinson. Wade, a rehabber, has purchased the manse as a fixer-upper, an investment property he hopes to flip at a large profit, as soon as the rehab is completed. What Wade was not told when he purchased the property from the TRI Group was the violent history of the manse.

Story
Famous novelist Rhys Carter loved to take long walks through his beech tree forest. It was relaxing, and the walks helped him think through the writer's block that oft times visited him while working on a novel. Today though, was different. This time he had been following the smell and sight of a stream of smoke coming from his woods. What had brought him here today was the need to find the source of the smoke. Where it led him was to something he had never seen before.

Story
On the east face of the Canyon del Río Hondo, there is an ancient cave known to the Mescal Indians as Moon Cave. It is a sacred place to the Mescal, used for the Ceremony of the Ancients, a ceremony performed every five years, rewarding the five most honored braves for their bravery and honesty. The ceremony must take place in Moon Cave because that is where the great medicine man, Owan-atan, created the magic.

Henry Kellogg was a simple man who enjoyed hiking in his Shawnee Forest and working on web projects for his clients. Then one day, while out hiking the top of Limestone Gap, he found Keyawa, a Wauami Indian, and Keyawa was injured and in need of help. But the help Keyawa needed was not to be rescued from the ledge he had fallen to, as Henry had thought upon finding him there. Have you ever wondered if the Bermuda Triangle is for real or just a place of unlikely mishaps? The citizens of Fordyce, New Mexico, have often wondered that about their Sonoma Quadrant. No airplanes have ever disappeared in the quadrant. No ships have ever disappeared there either, for the quadrant, as close as anyone has been able to determine, is a 36 square mile area in the middle of a desolate desert area known as the Sonoma.

Story
Stu Morgan had a dream he shared with his best friend and former business partner, Ed Jones. Now retired from their Sasquatch expedition business, they would have all the time they needed to find Marcus Marshall's lost Glory Hole Mine, a gold mine lost since Marcus himself disappeared in 1877. Stu had a good idea where the mine might be, and, after many trips to Horse Tooth Mountain, he and Ed finally found the adit leading into what they hoped would be the Glory Hole. As it turned out, it was exactly that, and so much more.

Thirty-year-old Vern Sanger and 35-year-old Reed Haskell are taking a trip down Hell's Interstate. Where they are going, they have no idea, but they are distributing death and destruction all along their way. Vern, an escaped convict, and Reed, a cold-blooded murderer, are living on the proceeds of their ongoing, two-man crime wave. So far, so good, but there are forces at work that Vern cannot even begin to fathom or suspect. It's only a matter of time before Hell's Interstate turns the bend and leads him down a path he certainly never expected to travel.

“You like it darker? Fine, so do I,” writes Stephen King in the afterword to this magnificent new collection of twelve stories that delve into the darker part of life—both metaphorical and literal. King has, for half a century, been a master of the form, and these stories, about fate, mortality, luck, and the folds in reality where anything can happen, are as rich and riveting as his novels, both weighty in theme and a huge pleasure to digest.

Every generation, a journalist has looked deep into the heart of the nuclear military establishment: the technologies, the safeguards, the plans, and the risks. These investigations are vital to how we understand the world we really live in—where one nuclear missile will beget one in return, and where the choreography of the world’s end requires massive decisions made on seconds’ notice with information that is only as good as the intelligence we have.

There is no bigger public health story now than the collapse in youth mental health. The numbers are terrifying and dominate our headlines. There has been much debate over how we got here, and what to do next, and bestselling author and social psychologist Jonathan Haidt is at the white-hot center of that discourse. Haidt has spent his career speaking wisdom and truth into the most difficult landscapes—communities polarized by politics and religion, campuses battling culture wars, and now the perfect storm contributing to a public health emergency for Gen Z.

Winter is coming. Such is the stern motto of House Stark, the northernmost of the fiefdoms that owe allegiance to King Robert Baratheon in far-off King's Landing. There Eddard Stark of Winterfell rules in Robert's name. Far to the north, behind the towering Wall, lie savage Wildings and worse - unnatural things relegated to myth during the centuries-long summer, but proving all too real and all too deadly in the turning of the season. Yet a more immediate threat lurks to the south, where Jon Arryn, the Hand of the King, has died under mysterious circumstances....
