Einst lebte in Wien ein Schmied, Meister Martin, der wegen seiner gewaltigen Stärke in der ganzen Stadt bekannt und berühmt war; man hieß ihn deshalb den „Eisenarm“. Der Schmied hatte noch eine andere Eigenart, die dazu beitrug, dass ihn seine Mitmenschen mit besonderen Augen ansahen. Er arbeitete nämlich in seiner Werkstatt tagtäglich, auch an Sonn- und Feiertagen, wiewohl dies gegen jeden Brauch und gegen das Kirchengebot verstieß, aber nur so viel und so lange, bis er vier Groschen verdient hatte. Dann legte er sein Schurzfell ab und sperrte seine Werkstatt zu.

Der Pförtner ließ den Gast eintreten, man reichte ihm Abendbrot und wies ihm ein Nachtlager an. Als man aber am Morgen erwartete, der Fremdling werde seinen Weg fortsetzen, flehte er mit Gebärden den Abt Teucho an, im Kloster bleiben zu dürfen. Zögernd willigte der Abt ein; aber nur zu den Diensten eines Knechtes konnte er den Stummen verwenden.

Im Jahre 1532, als die Türken neuerlich Wien belagern wollten, geschah es, dass sich einige der Horden in der Gegend des Neusiedler Sees herumtrieben. Eine Reiterschar gelangte auch nach Purbach. Als die Purbacher das Herannahen der Türken erfuhren, verbargen sie all ihr Hab und Gut und flüchteten in das nahe Leithagebirge, wo sie sichere Schlupfwinkel wussten. Die Türken fanden daher die Gemeinde ganz entvölkert. Da durchsuchten sie denn die Häuser und entdeckten manchen guten Bissen.
