Dysregulation is often referred to as being triggered or upset. Quite often people who are unaware of their dysregulation are angry, explosive, or they might shut down or be overly emotional. Dysregulation can be exaggerated by difficult past experiences - especially in childhood. It is also useful to understand that dysregulation is the CORRECT expression of a properly functioning nervous system - everyone can become dysregulated at times.

Feeling anxious and disconnected are signs of a nervous system that's out of balance. Something as small as a curt message from our boss can be perceived by our bodies as a threat to life. By understanding our physiological stress response, we can override and heal our emotional response, and fix the behaviours sabotaging our health and happiness. In The Vagus Nerve Reset, Anna Ferguson offers somatic therapies alongside the science of Polyvagal Theory, to help us train our nervous system to stop overreacting, and start responding more calmly to day-to-day stressors and heal past experiences.

Your autonomic nervous system is responsible for the constant but mostly subconscious communication between your brain and body. When you experience stress, anxiety, or trauma, your nervous system formulates responses to keep you alive. But you can also become trapped in survival mode if you’re consistently exposed to unsafe environments, toxic relationships, or destructive thought patterns. Mind-body practitioners Jen Mann and Karden Rabin now provide the first in-depth look at nervous system regulation, somatic therapy, Polyvagal theory, the vagus nerve, and the mind-body connection.

His gentle program for the mind and body proves once and for all that so many problems we accept as inevitable over time - chronic stiffness, bad back, chronic pain, fatigue, and, at times, even high blood pressure - need never occur if we maintain conscious control of nerve and muscle, replacing Sensory-Motor Amnesia with Sensory-Motor Awareness.

Trauma is a fact of life. Veterans and their families deal with the painful aftermath of combat; one in five Americans has been molested; one in four grew up with alcoholics; one in three couples have engaged in physical violence. Dr. Bessel van der Kolk, one of the world’s foremost experts on trauma, has spent more than three decades working with survivors. In The Body Keeps the Score, he uses recent scientific advances to show how trauma literally reshapes both body and brain, compromising sufferers’ capacities for pleasure, engagement, self-control, and trust.

Here, for the first time, is a layperson's explanation of polyvagal theory, an approach to mental health and well-being that has taken the clinical world by storm. A polyvagal approach to life is based on the knowledge that the autonomic nervous system is shaped by early experience and reshaped with ongoing experience. This short book will offer an overview for nonspecialists and provide a series of exercises and meditations (practices) that will allow listeners to tune into their nervous systems, providing calming prompts to build and strengthen ventral vagal connections.

Resumen del Editor
Relieve anxiety, burnout, feelings of overwhelm, and chronic physical symptoms by healing your dysregulated nervous system with this 5-stage roadmap based on the latest science.
Dr. Linnea Passaler has helped thousands globally in her digital health program address a wide range of symptoms associated with nervous system dysregulation—from mental symptoms, including anxiety, burnout, and brain fog, to physical symptoms, such as digestive issues, chronic inflammation, and fatigue. In Heal Your Nervous System, Dr. Passaler presents her 5-stage plan, developed over the last decade, to equip you with the knowledge to understand and regulate your unique nervous system.
Despite its advances, conventional medicine has often overlooked the importance of nervous system regulation in our health and quality of life. This is especially true for highly sensitive individuals, who may be more susceptible to a dysregulated nervous system. Instead of merely treating the symptoms, Dr. Passaler shows you how to make a profound shift from reactive treatment to proactive healing.
Grounded in recent scientific advances in neurobiology, chronic stress, trauma, and sensitivity, this is not a short-term or one-size-fits-all solution, but a comprehensive strategy to tackle the source of your symptoms, and restore your physical, cognitive, and emotional health.
In Heal Your Nervous System, you will discover:
- How anxiety, trauma, and chronic stress are not just “in your head,” but manifest in all areas of your health
- How to assess your current level of nervous system dysregulation
- Why nervous system dysregulation can cause both mental and physical symptoms
- How your individual sensitivity profile and past experiences came together to tip your nervous system into a state of dysregulation
- The four most common mistakes people make in their healing journey, and how to avoid them
- Top essential habits that support your nervous system during your healing journey
- Simple practices, exercises, and routines that progressively reverse nervous system dysregulation
- How to organize the most effective practices into the right order, a sequence that supports your healing without getting overwhelmed
Your nervous system and health are far more adaptable than you think. With Heal Your Nervous System as your guidebook, you can navigate a fresh path, reverse symptoms, and progressively move towards a robust mind and body.
PLEASE NOTE: When you purchase this title, the accompanying PDF will be available in your Audible Library along with the audio.

These processes build our sense of self, help us form connections, and influence whether we feel comfortable in different situations or with different individuals. When a traumatic event occurs, our body triggers its “fight or flight” response. In many scenarios, the emotional reactions of this response get trapped, disrupting the feedback loop between our mind and body, leading to an imbalance in our nervous system function. Over time this can cause chronic stress, pain, high blood pressure, and a weakened immune system. This, alongside regular triggers in our everyday life, will manifest into a disconnection between our mind and body and create a constant feeling of dissociation from our emotions, with minimal control over how we feel.

An amazing book
Being an extremely sensitive person and a person with a highly dysregulated nervous system this book is helping me find ways to feel safe again in my body. The voice of the narrator is very soothing and I keep wanting to read and learn more. Thanks to Dr Linnea for helping us heal

Very good book
I'm still reading this book but until now I had many "Aha"!! moments where I understood what's the root of my desregulation, it has scientific facts, test and techniques to adress it. The content is good and the pace of the reader is understandable and consistent.
I recommend this book to anyone who wants real tools and deeper knowledge.

Eye Opening
This book is extremely helpful to get more in tune with my body and nervous system. I’ve never found such an easy break down of how to calm my nervous system and how to manage triggers and stressors as they come up. This is extremely helpful and I found it very relatable to what I’ve gone through and continue to struggle with at times. I would highly recommend it to others.

I learned the first step and confused by the rest
I got the first phase, awareness. But the other 4 phases have got me feeling like I don’t know what to do after becoming aware of my tension. A lot of this seems like useless rambling, like just get to the point and tell me what to do.

One of the most impactful books on my healing journey
The narrator voice is soothing and perfectly fit for such an amazing book on healing from disregulation, despite the long introduction I find it very well written with a lot of takeaways and practical suggestions that help everyone on their journey.

This book helped me grasp a great understanding of where my nervous system has been sitting, why it’s dysregulated and actual actionable steps to help me heal. I highly recommend reading this book if you deal with nervous system disorders.

just a Buzfeed article
If you've never heard about dysregulated nervous systems, are only mildly troubled, and enjoy those repetitive "top 10 ways you can chill out" articles, then you'll enjoy this book. Otherwise, this book is NOT a "healing" book; this is bandaid CBT-Cope101. For people with more severe dysregulation, this book is akin to telling a major depressive "just turn that frown upside down!" You can get closer to your root issues with YouTube.

Repeated Content
A lot of saying the same thing and the PDF included mostly references. Would have liked to be able to see the 5 stages of healing since that’s what the book is about! The website is all about paying to do the process with a membership!

A Long Term Plan for Those Who Qualify
This book was clearly edited to cater to the lowest common denominator. I wish it had included more science to support its claims so that the book was a healthy 50/50 between science and self-help, but it's more like...20/80. Not what I was really looking for.
The book introduces a plan to help regulate the nervous system at "every" level. The plan is very long and involved and while some of it is very helpful in terms of small things you can introduce into daily life that are beneficial, a lot of the plan is dependent on first completing an entire stage before proceeding. Some elements of the plan are flat out too vague to put into practice and are difficult to translate into specifics for your life (the section on spirituality and kinship was just...awful). This is what comes from trying to write for literally everyone.
And though I'm very pleased to find that the beginning of the book had introduction and discussion on what an HSP (highly sensitive person) is, the book utterly failed to properly define what it considered to be CLEAR dysregulation of the nervous system and not simply something else...like anxiety. Or a physical chronic illness like endometriosis or POTS, etc. It basically said anything, literally anything about your life or physical state, could cause dysregulation. Well, great. But for those with chronic illness, a lot of this book may be a waste of time.
Lastly, the book is highly repetitive in many places and the author really should have tried to some up with a synonym for the word 'dysregulation' because if I have to hear it one more time I might scream.
