Acerca de esta escucha
What if the greatest salespeople on the planet are the opposite of who you think they are?
Everyone sells, every day. It’s why the most successful people are better than most at selling themselves, their ideas, or their products and services.
Yet when people hear the word sales they think of an overly confident, articulate extrovert (at best) or a pushy, know-it-all huckster (at worst). Because of these misperceptions, when we find ourselves in a situation where we need to sell, we feel compelled to put on the persona of a “good salesperson.” But there’s a disconnect between who we think good salespeople are and who they actually are. In any room, they’re not the most self-confident, they’re the most self-aware. They’re not the most sociable, they’re the most socially aware. And they don’t succeed in spite of obstacles, they succeed because of obstacles.
Colin Coggins and Garrett Brown sought out some of the most successful people from all walks of life, including CEOs, entrepreneurs, doctors, trial lawyers, professional athletes, agents, military leaders, artists, engineers, and countless others in hopes of understanding why these people are so extraordinary. Colin and Garrett found that, as different as all these incredible people were, they all had an eerily similar approach to selling. It didn’t matter if they were perceived as optimists or pessimists, logical or emotional, introverted or extroverted, jovial or stoic—they were all unsold on what it meant to sell and unsold on who people expected them to be.
The Unsold Mindset reveals a counterintuitive approach not just to selling but to life. It’s a journey toward an entirely new mindset—the greatest sellers on the planet aren’t successful because of what they do, they’re successful because of what they think. Being a good person and a good salesperson aren’t mutually exclusive. The Unsold Mindset will change the way you think about selling and the way you think about yourself.

We live in a world that’s obsessed with talent. We celebrate gifted students in school, natural athletes in sports, and child prodigies in music. But admiring people who start out with innate advantages leads us to overlook the distance we ourselves can travel. We underestimate the range of skills that we can learn and how good we can become. We can all improve at improving. And when opportunity doesn’t knock, there are ways to build a door.

Historia
In sales, the worst thing you can hear from a customer isn’t “no.” It’s “I need to think about it.” When this happens, deeply entrenched business advice says to double down on your efforts to sell a buyer on all the ways they might win by choosing you and your business. But this approach backfires dramatically. Why? Because it completely gets wrong the primary driver behind purchasing decision-making: once purchase intent is established, customers no longer care about succeeding. What they really care about is not failing.

However, being a 10X entrepreneur is nothing like what most people think.

For as long as salespeople have been asking buyers to make commitments, buyers have been throwing out objections. And, for as long as buyers have been saying no, salespeople have yearned for the secrets to getting past those NOs. Most of us think of sales as convincing potential customers to believe or do something they don't really want to. But that cutthroat mentality makes the process much harder than it has to be—especially in an economic downturn, when customers are more suspicious and defensive. It's far more productive (and satisfying) when salespeople think like Go-Givers and focus exclusively on creating value for the customer.

A must listen for all walks of life!
As someone not in the business of sells, I found the book had great lessons that I will be able to use in my everyday life. The book sheds a bright light on being unconventional and authentic.
The book was a easy listen and follow. Having two readers of the book with slightly different styles helped me stay engaged throughout the book.
Overall this is a great listen and it’s a reminder that we are all in sells if we realize it or not.

Best sales book I’ve read in the last 10 years
These guys do an incredible job breaking down how the best sales people are the opposite of who we think they are. They provide research based examples along with an easy to digest guide on how to adjust our mindset in real time to see genuine results that leave a lasting impact on our customers. I highly recommend this book to people who don’t have sales in their title. Everyone is selling whether you realize it or not!

Not just for salesPEOPLE. For PEOPLE!
This really isn’t just a book for salespeople, or how people view salespeople. It’s really about how people should view other people! It covers just about anything and everything on building relationships with others while being your true self. The authors also provide advice and exercises on how to set goals and purposes to help you grow. Most of all, listening to Colin and Garrett is not boring like other audiobooks. It’s like listening to your friends talk. I love this book because it’s relatable on so many levels. I love the authors, and I can’t wait for more!

The best non-sales sales book!
Excellent read for sales execs as it calls out those disingenuous tactics and jumps into the core of being your authentic self - even if it doesn’t fit into the typical sales persona. The authors break down complex concepts, both brand new as well as some that I kind of knew but didn’t realize or couldn’t articulate, and made them so clear in the book: adding value vs being valuable, transactional vs transformational thinking, purpose vs goals, the value of intentional ignorance, getting pushed up instead of pulled up…. So many gems!
This book is not only helping me as the reader, but it’s helping me help others in my life.
Highly recommended!

Eye opener
Man coming from a non sales guy. If I had this book when I tried sales I would have done 10 times better. You guys highlight what I hated most about the sales environment.
Sales Execs always try to push for you to follow a script to a T regardless of who the customer or client is or who you are as a person. This book allows you to realize what works for you and how to use that as your most important tool.

Great read even for non-salespeople
It’s a great book and I could immediately connect with the content! To me it was more inspirational than methodological, probably because I am not a sales person. Although I could easily interpret the content for many situations I would face during my work (and life). I think it maybe a great follow up if you guys do a second book addressing a more general audience not salespeople specifically.
And thanks for the beautiful narration as well, I tend to get the audiobook if the authors narrated themselves.
One little note: although great advice, you gotta be super careful when applying some of the tips. it might be common sense but it is very easy to sound like you are complaining about your life/work/anything else in the attempt of being authentic and end up coming across as an unlikable character. So just be careful

Transformational for Any Person
I just finished this book and I have been transformed (or starting to as I put what I learned into practice). There are so many amazing insights to help me in my life and not just my career. I’m still unpacking everything I’ve learned. But the one thing I wanted to get out of this book was to think of my new position, that my company chose for me, as a positive change. I’m so excited for my new gig now. A fresh new way to live out my purpose.
Read it. You will find at least one thing to help you not just in sales but in life.
