Winter has come to the world, and still, Erin Solstice has no idea how she came to be an [Innkeeper].

Erin is running an inn outside the city of Liscor, but she’s no longer alone. Ryoka Griffin, the City Runner, has business in the south of Izril; she’s out on a dangerous delivery of her own. Yet while both young women have finally found their calling, more and more people are beginning to realize that these visitors from Earth don’t belong here.
Erin must find new guests and old for her inn while expanding her tentative business. Staying safe would also be nice. At the same time, some pesky creatures have arrived to herald winter, and they bring mischief and danger unlike anything she’s ever seen. But as more and more children of Earth begin appearing, the cold of winter is the least of Erin’s worries.

LitRPG means Literary Role Playing Game. Simply put, it’s the book version of watching someone play a video game, usually one that’s set up like an MMO (massively multiplayer online) RPG. It’s a blend of sci-fi and fantasy, depending on how it comes to be that our main character ends up living inside a virtual reality. the point of LitRPG is not how we get there, but that we get to be in this virtual reality period, living life as a badass video-game character. Beat the grind and submerse yourself in these addictive LitRPGs.

It’s a pretty good read. I thoroughly enjoyed this world. I read the book and decided to give it a listen. The text itself could have used some better editing. I disliked this in the text version but gave it a pass due to its origins as a self-published Ebook. I was hopeful they had cleaned it up a bit for the spoken version but not a great deal was done. Dialogue can get a bit repetitive as a result.
Performance was great, the narrator fully brought the characters to life.
Re: Politics. Baffled by the people ranting about too much politics. It’s mentioned a few times but is not a theme, and states only the facts to give context to dates and times of the story. But I guess even facts are political these days. Here’s the gist. Two characters in an alternate reality with goblins and monsters are surprised and disappointed that Trump was elected in Mundane reality after his “grab em in the p**ssy” comments. Unsurprising given the personalities of the two strong female leads. 60 seconds of 61 HOURs.

Pretty good book, RE: politics.

I love this series because it isn't simple power fantasy. I love the commentary on what the characters might be trading away for power by choosing to engage with the game systems of the world.

I find Ryoka Griffin to be my favorite character because she's focused on improving herself rather than trading convenience for effort. What I realized was that this attitude is what I really love in a lot of books. That mindset is what makes the main character in The Martian so engaging. It wasn't just the setting or the desperate situation, but his attempts to understand his situation and adapt to it. To believe in himself rather than waiting for someone to come save him. Ryoka gives me that same impression. She's committed to finding out what she can achieve, rather than what she can be given by the game. I love that, and I wish it were an easily searchable genre, because it seems so rare to find stories like that.

I am an avid reader and follower if this series - after discovering Vol 1 on Audible and sticking with it for a while - I went on to spend the next few months of my life reading volumes 2 through 6 and I continue to keep up with Volume 7 week by week, chapter by chapter.

Having Volume 2 on audio in a boon. The narrator is excellent. In these times - with content and time being as important as they are - I implore all fans of scifi, fantasy, litrpg and slice of life books to dig into to this long form drama. it keeps getting better, bugger, deeper, smarter, funnier and more and more relevant.

Epic masterpiece continues - slice by slice
