Publisher's summary

A guide that empowers family members combating post-traumatic stress on the home front, offering hope, purpose, and tangible solutions.

This book provides definitions and real-life examples of complex PTSD and complex secondary PTSD (seen in a rapidly rising number of spouses and children), and the problems that arise when untreated. Arsenal of Hope aims to help soldiers, first responders, their families, and civilians with trauma - including those dealing with COVID-19 chaos or death.

Jen Satterly is a certified coach and respected authority on PTSD, having been embedded with Special Operations during large scale military training missions and married to a Delta Force Command Sgt. Major. As a cofounder of a nonprofit for warriors and their families to heal after the trauma of war, her stories, research, realistic advice, and sometimes humor, are told through a military lens. Written with award-winning collaborative writer Holly Lorincz, Satterly uses her firsthand knowledge and medical expertise to deal with each issue. Most importantly, she illustrates how to change and create habits to circumvent the symptoms of post-traumatic stress.

Great story

Great book about PTSD and it’s effect on not only the primary person dealing with it but on those around them who also experience it’s effects.

Powerful!

Jen Satterly’s and Holly Lorincz’s book Arsenal of Hope is tremendously powerful and I’ve already recommended it to several milspouse friends! From chapter one I was hooked and just kept nodding and laughing in recognition.

If you love anyone who has experienced battle in any way- this is worth a read!!

My only wish was that Jen and Holly voiced the audio book :)

HOPE and Protection for those who Protect Us

I have not read other books about the SOF community where a couple opens wide their heart and life and so deeply shares what dealing with trauma looks like.
Jen is a total warrior - she shared and puts into practice the reality of what life can be like behind the scenes, but also shares hope that with the right tools and humility to share and let others in your life, trauma can be managed, and healing and growth can move forward. Trauma and Secondary trauma.

I think this book is a must read for those who have a family member struggling during and after service -

Jen and Tom’s story can help all involved to understand what is happening. To understand trauma and secondary trauma can change the whole perspective of how to save a marriage, family and life, and move forward.
Thank you for your service and courage for all the outward and inward battles you have and continue to overcome, Tom.
Thank you Jen for modeling what a true spouse warrior looks like. ❤️🙏

Sorry, I wanted to love this book but it is awful.

I admire this couple and what they are doing to help vets and their families, but this book has no real useful application. The author shares her story in detail (excess detail sometimes without enough follow up) and basically refers people back to their website for concrete help. Also, there is a ridiculous amount of foul language in it. Just too much. I’ve never written a negative review before and am sorry that this book falls so short that I felt I must. Again, deep thanks for the amazing work of retreats and practical help for our service members and their families dealing with the fallout of excessive trauma; that help is greatly needed and makes a huge difference in the world.
