Peter Hale is a young attorney with a lot to prove. Crossing his father, one of Portland's most powerful lawyers, was a costly mistake. Now, cut loose from his job and his inheritance, Peter's has landed in the public defender's office of a small Oregon town - and in the middle of a high-profile case that could make or break his career. His mentally handicapped client, accused of the savage murder of a college coed, faces the death penalty. And Peter faces a choice - between the pursuit of headlines and the pursuit of truth, between the compulsion to save himself and the courage to save his client - in a devastating trial by fire.

Starts out a little slow, but stay with it. Very good and exciting with twists....

Excellent

Margolin’s written expression is matchless among current thriller authors; but one practice common to all current non-Christian thriller authors is using the names God, Christ and Jesus as their characters Only expression of strong emotion- I WISH that Margolin’, and Baldacci, Grisham, Connelly and all the others would be satisfied to have their characters use creative four-letter cussing and knock off spewing expressions that many of their fans view as blasphemous.

Great narration of another Phillip Margolin treat 👏🥰

A great story which provides sufficient balance between outer facts and inner turmoil. Narration seemed a bit understated until I increased the playback speed.

Great story

I don't want the Audible app on my computer or tablet. I removed it before using.

I am a Margolin fan, but this book is so painful to read that after suffering for a few hours thinking it had to improve I gave up. Other than the poor defendant, every character is not only unlikable, but irredeemable. Every situation becomes increasingly nauseating.

I can't believe Phillip Margolin wrote this!
