Enemies emerge everywhere. Stagnation starts seeming standard. Results require Ruthlessness.

Joe has been moving deeper into his study of ritual magic and further away from his combat team. He's learning more and more, but more often than not needs to choose between his research and squad leadership. Improving the town is a huge help to the guild, and they have been pushing to increase their power.

Their rapid increases have not gone unnoticed. The guild receives an ultimatum, delivered by assassins and signed with blood. If they continue to accrue power and fame, each and every person with a grievance against the guild will come to smash the town back to square one.

With tensions coming to a head, all Joe wants to do is leave it all behind and reach the next area. He flatly refuses the guild when they ask him to devise lethal options to use against the gathering army, but when the time comes...even Joe is unsure if he'll step into the limelight and show everyone exactly how ruthless he can be.

LitRPG means Literary Role Playing Game. Simply put, it’s the book version of watching someone play a video game, usually one that’s set up like an MMO (massively multiplayer online) RPG. It’s a blend of sci-fi and fantasy, depending on how it comes to be that our main character ends up living inside a virtual reality. the point of LitRPG is not how we get there, but that we get to be in this virtual reality period, living life as a badass video-game character. another great addition to the series packed with adventure, details, and mechanics. I do miss the days of hunting rabbits and slowly discovering the game. now things move much faster and everything is bigger. this was a very Joe-focused book, we'll get 1-liners from past characters once in a while but for the most part Joe goes at it all solo. there's also too much stuff that benefits Joe. items, skills, old favors, curses, old deals, buildings, secrets, bugs, etc. it's almost annoying how he always has the right tool for the job. even when things seem to not be going in his favor they actually are going in his favor. aside from that I still love the series and I'm really looking forward to see how the next book progresses.

I was delighted to all of a sudden hear the narrator break down. everything is so clean and polished when it gets to my ears so it was refreshing and hilarious to hear the difficulties a voice talent runs into.

stay for the blooper reel

Luke Daniels continues to be one of my favorite narrators. her had a variety of voices and makes it really easy to follow along with his clear diction. the store is a strong addition to the series and while a bit more time than I would have hoped is spent on getting rid of a couple debuffs I am eagerly awaiting the next installment

great addition to the series
