Against the unforgiving landscape of a hospital, a group of terminally ill patients embraces the joys within their reach: friendship, freedom, rebellion. Each in their own way is broken; each in their own way is stronger for it.
In the midst of pain and loss, they find community, even miracles, and together they are determined to reclaim from life what illness has taken from them. But a singular heartbreak has led one to swear off love forever. The risk of experiencing another tragedy feels too great. Yet, in this desolate place where it seems impossible for love to make an appearance, a door opens—and so do hearts.

Man… I wanted to love the ending, but it just didn’t land for me. Finding out Sam wasn’t really a person but more like the embodiment of hope? It was sweet and made sense in theory, but it didn’t hit the way I hoped it would. Felt like I was handed this beautiful ice cream sundae, then someone came and smacked it right off the table. 😩
The timeline jumping around kind of threw me off. It felt a little chaotic and made it harder to stay grounded in the story sometimes. But it could just be a me thing.
What did work for me: the raw, poetic way it portrayed loss, friendship, and love in the hospital. The characters’ pain and their fierce love for each other. They loved one another so much. I’ll be thinking about Sony, C, Neo, and Hikari for a long time. 🥀
This book was beautiful, devastating, and raw. I related to it in ways I didn’t expect. I’ve had friends who’ve battled chronic illnesses and some who, heartbreakingly, are no longer here. So yeah, a lot of this story hit home. And while I appreciated the honesty and the poetry in the pain, this book can definitely be triggering for anyone who’s been through similar losses. Read with caution. ✿*:・゚✧*:・゚✿
