Publisher's summary

From New York Times bestselling author Penelope Ward comes a new, STANDALONE novel…

ABBY:

I’m falling for the father of the baby I’m carrying.

The problem is: it’s not my baby. And the broody widower is not looking for a long-term partner.

As a surrogate, the deal was that I’d only be in England long enough to give birth.

At first, the man seemed as pretentious as his name: Sigmund Benedictus. He and I butted heads.

Sig challenged my intentions, accused me of just wanting to do this for the money.

Gradually, he learned to trust me.

He even became protective. Over time, our heated animosity turned into fiery chemistry.

I was falling in love with him. But my time here had a limit. I needed to protect my heart from the devastatingly gorgeous older man who’d end up breaking it.

SIG:

When my in-laws told me they wanted to use my dead wife’s eggs to conceive a grandchild, I wasn’t immediately on board. They swore that on her deathbed Britney told them it was what she wanted—but only if I fathered the baby. Her parents insisted they would be the ones to raise it.

Against my better judgment, I agreed.

I vowed to keep my heart out of it, though.

I’d continue to pretend it wasn’t happening and live the empty, single life I’d become accustomed to the past five years since Britney died.

And despite the fact that a certain younger American named Abby Knickerbocker had awakened things inside me that I thought were long dead…

I most certainly wouldn’t fall in love with the surrogate.

Outstanding

I do not know how Penelope Ward continues to come up with these stories as when I read the blurb for this book, I could not wait to read it. Penelope Ward has delivered a fabulous read and in fact is one of my top reads EVER. Once I started, I could not put this book down.

From the first paragraph I was totally invested in Sig and Abby’s story. This was a well written, steamy, story with so much emotion, heart, and soul as it deals with loss, and it brought me to tears on occasion.

We first met Sigmund Benedictus (Sig) in The Aristocrat (one of my favourite books) and I knew his story was going to be worth the wait and it was. The characters were engaging and easy to fall in love with and though they were opposites they were well suited to one another.

The journey that Sig and Abby went through was a roller coaster of emotions that brought me to my knees and left me with one heck of a book hangover.Jacob Morgan and Desiree Ketchum were outstanding with their perforamces and boy did they bring all the emotions to their performances.

One click this little gem, you won’t be disappointed.

Wonderful story

A wonderful story about finding love unexpectedly. Abbie and Sig meet when she bumps into his car while looking at sheep in the field. She's in England to meet him though she doesn't know he's the potential father for the surrogacy that she has agreed to. As they travel this journey, they begin to have real feelings for each other. This book made me laugh and cry. I thought Jacob Morgan's English accent was fantastic. Desiree Ketchum was a great narrator also.

Second chances ❤️❤️

I fell in love with the character Sigmund Benedictus in “The Aristocrat” and was pleasantly surprised to find his story and it didn’t disappoint. He is brooding, sarcastic and lost. Abby and her selflessness bring him back to life. Absolutely loved this book and the conclusion. Another bonus: Jacob Morgan’s narration. He could read the phone book and I’d pay to listen to him. Worth the credit!

Couldn't put it down!

This story was so intriguing I couldn't put it down! Seriously it was that good. There were enough hot and heavy scenes to keep me totally engaged and the love story was so touching and real. I could totally see their situation playing out in real life just the way it happened in the book. Stunning development of the characters and an awesome display of their emotions.

Loved 🥰 it

What a cute and unique story…. Loved the narration but I think if you need a British narrator is should be done by Shane East. Nothing against Zachary Webber. But Shane blows thing out of the park with his voice and accent. Over all the book was REAL GOOD and totally worth the credit 😍
