Publisher's summary

A world on the precipice of the apocalypse. A secret forged in the flames of war. A chance to start over.

For John Sutton, only one of those three things matters.

Retired from a decade of brutal war, he wants nothing more than a quiet pastoral life while he does his best to stem the steady increase of his Doom Points before they hit 100, signaling the start of the end.

He’s been given a small farm on the outskirts of the empire as thanks for his service, but no matter how far he travels, it's impossible to escape the war's devastating effects on the world.

Bandits, suspicious townsfolk, a mysterious pair of siblings, and a secret that lurks in the mountains all threaten John’s peace. It will take all of his considerable power to keep from burning everything to the ground.

Don't miss the start of the next great Fantasy LitRPG Series by Seth Ring, author of Nova Terra. Pre-order your copy today and explore a world whose secrets have been buried under decades of war.

About the Series: Mixing slice-of-life with epic fantasy action, mystery, magic, cultivation, and a broken game system that seems determined to make everything as hard as possible for the already overpowered protagonist, this LitRPG/GameLit series is perfect for those who enjoy exploring rich worlds and complex characters.

Good story. Great slice of life. Empty M.C.

This is a slice if life style book about an overpowered main character that got transferred into this world of swords and sorcery . He spent his time fighting the wars and saving the land and is now looking to retire on a farm far away from civilisation...

If it sounds like beware of chicken... its because it is, except the characters are no where near as compelling.

This main character is completely empty and we are not given a reason as to why.

He doesn't understand human emotions, either his own or other people's... for no apparent reason

... He saves a woman and her brother from a gang who wants to TAKE HER. On THE DAY they come by to threaten to TAKE HER the MC John tells them to go away. Later on when John the woman and her brother sit down for a meal where they are quiet (because they are scared) ... The MC John thinks it's odd that they are silent, as they are never quiet, but DOESNT KNOW WHY?!?!?!
either a sociopath or lame ass writing...

He's extremely adept and intelligent sometimes and a complete idiot who doesn't understand basic stuff other times. The only thing linking this all into a single person is the author telling us

Author is constantly trying to tell us how cool we should think the MC is... "he said with no emotion" ..."as they froze at his sheer power" ... yea yea yea hes big strong cool and the silent type (for no actual given reason)

I like slice of life and I LOVE beware of chicken... Overall this book was fine but just kept pulling me out of the story everytime our MC John says more than like 7 words to anyone.

good book with a dumb name

yes we do judge a book the cover first, the title second, genre and author last.

Review

This audiobook was not what I thought it was going to be about, never judge a book by its cover. I really enjoy this audiobook.👍👍👍👍

Really good

Okay so i almost dropped this because i thought the MC was going to be one of those that don't kill their enemies and well im glad i didn't, the story was entertaining and even though the MC is probably the most powerful creature on the world he can't go all out because of the doom points and i think thats a nice balance and well that ending let me wanting for more also i knew it was a mistake to dump all of his points the way he did

MC life of hard knocks

this was more than I was expecting. it's not immediately after the summoning like most of these stories but almost a decade later. MS has seen a hard life and is tired but still putting one foot in front of the other.

Excellent!!!!

I was very impressed by this book. We always wonder what happens to our heros who ride off into the sunset. This book showed us that they can have adventures after they save the world and leave the public eye.

This was a great book and I can't wait till the next one.

Terrific

This is a great addition to the isekai genre. An OP character stuck in a world without instructions.

Engaging story

First, the MC is way OP despite the DOOM point limitation. Despite that, the story is engaging and has good flow. Things are a bit ham handed at times, and the narration while good is a bit odd at times I am looking forward to book 2.
