Publisher's summary

"While the history books are filled with tales of obsessive visionary geniuses who remade the world in their images with sheer, almost irrational force, I've found that history is also made by individuals who fought their egos at every turn, who eschewed the spotlight, and who put their higher goals above their desire for recognition." Ego kills. Humbleness fullfills.

I loved the concept. Is just that the chapter on passion threw me off. His definition of passion didn't match mine. I see passion as a strength rather than a weakness. And I see purpose as even stronger than passion. I think you need both to succeed.

Nice history lesson/confirmation/continuing education

I enjoyed the book very much and was drawn to it because our late teacher Brugh Joy. He wrote Joy's Way and taught that we should "let no one steal our peace" but warned there is a caveat: "the ego is the theif ."
Never rated book with all fives! Until now.

Amazing

The obstacle is the way last week. Ego is the way this week. What else can I say but stunning. Timeless information that transcends all Walks of life. Ryan brings the art of storytelling with a very stoic and philosophical point of view.

Great story and good point.

What made the experience of listening to Ego Is the Enemy the most enjoyable?

Very relevant and very helpful book to reflect on myself and see how my Ego stands on my own way and what to do about it.The author though took the last hour or two just to talk about himself writing this book! What an irony! That last chapter bragging should be cut off .. Uninteresting and discouraging. Have the author learned anything from his own book? Just being humble would be a great lesson to learn.

Have you listened to any of Ryan Holiday’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

At one point I thought the narrator had a cold... Should have take a break.

Brilliant and insightful

Great Thinker of His Generation, Ryan Holiday, once again delivers a wisdom-suffused treatise on how to be, think, do, and live. Packed with real world examples of both egos run amok and those who mastered the beast to live lives of powerful, quiet, dispassionate accomplishment, this book is a confronting, difficult, and satisfying must read. A more than worthy successor to The Obstacle is The Way.
