Publisher's summary

Are you a huge fan of The Walking Dead? World War Z? Do your passions run to the end of the world? This book is for you!

Are you a veteran who watches Hollywood movies that depict the military inaccurately and want to throw your combat boot through the TV? This book is for you!

Sometime in the near future, a few years after the Zombie Apocalypse has devastated the world, a small group of soldiers (sort of) is covering the United States Army's advance back into Upstate New York and the Hudson River Valley.

The team is what this book is about. How men and women work together to overcome obstacles, deal with loss, and form an efficient fighting unit.

The pop references really made this story work!

Any additional comments?

From start to finish, this listen scored on every level. The constant references to pop culture were a wonderful addition to zombie literature and made for a special dynamic between the Lost Boys' team members.

The story was intriguing. The main characters were broken, sympathetic and heroic. There were more bad guys than just the zombies. And the world kept spinning.

The narration was a perfect choice for the subject. He was manly and macho but not too. He also provided very believable female voices.

This listen is very military-specific and I loved hearing the military jargon! It made for another wonderful addition to zombie literature.

I loved every thing about this listen!

Loved the action

Any additional comments?

I wasn't sure what to expect. This book had a really good blend of action, humor, heartbreak. I hope more is to come from this group of zombie killers. I recieved this audiobook from Audiobook Boom for my unbiased review.

The zombie thing is over and then it's not

Would you listen to Even Zombie Killers Get the Blues again? Why?

Very different take on the zombie apocalypse, this occurs after the zombies have over run everything and everyone and how the survivors organize themselves to take it back, plenty of intrigue and bad guys as well, just a little on the fast paced side and the story progresses almost too rapidly from point to point, still worth listening to.

Fun Zombie Book

This was a fun zombie adventure and the first book I've listened to by this author. The narrator does a great job.

Entertaining.

The army are slowly trying to take back the US after the Zombie outbreak. Scouting parties made up of soldiers, ex soldiers and civilians are sent on recon to different places. Their job is to relay information back to command. In this we follow one such recon team, and get a glimpse on what it could be like to take back America from Zombies!

This was a lot of fun!! When a Zombie novel can make you laugh, you know it's going to be good ;) I absolutely loved the comradeship between the characters and the witty banter. Only thing was, I wish we got a little more in depth with the characters. I wanted to know more about them and their stories.

The plot and story development is where this shines. In most ever other Zombie story, we see that the infrastructure is always gone, but in this one, we see that they have managed to patch up a lot of that infrastructure and have it working. It was a nice change. I also liked that the scout teams have safe houses where they can weather the storm! It was well written, well thought out and an easy and fun story to read.

The narrator, did a decent job with the narration. He had a few different tones and voices and used them well. I wanted a little more performance from him though, and thought he could have put a little more soul into it. But I still enjoyed his reading of it and look forward to more.

Decent story, fairly poor narrator

The story itself isn't too bad. Its an interesting perspective from a military scouting unit undergoing various missions in an effort to take back the US. It could mostly fit in the style of universe in World War Z from soldiers' perspectives. Overall, its an enjoyable story.

The downside is the narrator. He does a small range of character voices, but there's not a lot of variation.

The biggest downside is the lack of care in editing. There are a lot of "click" sounds scattered throughout the book, followed by the narrator repeating the last line he messed up. These were clearly meant to be edited out but were missed. Not a big deal, but not the level of quality I have come to enjoy from Audible's narrators.

Not that much different

The publisher's summary makes it sound like this is going to be so much different than all other Zombie stories. But it really isn't. The characters are more or less same, as you find in other zombie horror / drama stories and there isn't much difference, action wise. I won't be investing time in book 2.

Not bad just not quite my thing.

I'm not a zombie apocalypse lover. this was better than most but just not to my taste. I did not like the reader. nothing in particular I just didn't like his voice.

Watch out for the Red Eyes

Since the apocalypse things have changed. People have had to be resourceful and brave. Nick runs a scouting group. Nick was in Afghanistan and has a military background. But after the apocalypse and having to bash his own wife's skull in he has changed. Nick's team is tight. They watch over each other and do their job really well. Most of the places they are forced to scout are in the State of New York. Nick has a problem with the commanding officer whom he often gets into spats with.

I wonder if it is the Z apocalypse or if seeing so many people die that makes people become cynical and serious smart alecs.
