About this listen

An Astra Militarum Audiobook

In the jungles of the Dolorosa Coil, a coalition of alien T'au and human deserters have waged war upon the Imperium for countless years.

LISTEN TO IT BECAUSE

It's a typically weird and twisted tale from Peter Fehervari, with intriguing characters, a plot that will keep you guessing, and more mystery than you can shake a pulse rifle at.

THE STORY

Fresh Astra Militarum forces from the Arkhan Confederates are sent in to break the stalemate on Dolorosa Coil, and annihilate the xenos. But greater forces are at work, and the Confederates soon find themselves broken and scattered. As they fight a desperate guerrilla war, their only hope may lie in the hands of a disgraced commissar, hell-bent on revenge.

It’s so good

Overall, one the best written books I’ve ever read/listened to, and that’s outside of Warhammer as well.

good book, great performance.

Book has very similar vibes to Apocalypse Now or Full Metal Jacket. It has great characters and worldbuilding, but you are going to be shown the worst of humanity and the galaxy.

One of the best writers in the setting.

No one does it like Fehervari. Just a great story, and very well told. Narrator did a very good job as well.

Elevating 40k

Peter really crushed this, fantastic book. Once the ball gets rolling, it seems to never stop gaining momentum. The dreadful reality of Phaedra seems to seep out of the pages and infect the listener as we move through the intertwined fates of the 19th Arkan and Commissar Iveson. Fehervari is really setting himself apart with a different flavor of grimdark that is honestly perfect for the 40k setting. Performance was spot on as well, not sure if Iveson could be done any better.

More Fehevari, please!

One of the best BL books committed to paper.
A loving homage to Heart of Darkness/Apocalypse Now with a Warhammer spin.
Fehevari is just an incredible author and story teller, and Andrew James Spooner did an incredible jobs bringing that story to life.

Give us more Fehevari weirdness!

Space Vietnam

Truly grim dark. I could feel the bugs, dirt, and grime of the world. 40k’s Apocalypse Now.

Excellent story

the dark coil series makes the 40k universe so mysterious and foreboding. If GW could PLEASE bring them all the audiobook, I'd pay good money for that

11/10

This is the first time out of almost 30 Warhammer 40k titles I have written a review. I am compelled to do so because this is with absolute certainty the best Warhammer book I have encountered. Fehevari transcends the medium of Warhammer to make something truly exceptional. The narrator is great as well.

It would be a mistake to not stop what you are doing and listen to this right now.

Trinity in embers, trinity remembers.

Apocalypse Now In 40K

It combines elements of horror, heart of darkness/apocalypse now (and related Vietnam war fiction), American civil war-era stylings and more insular psychological thrillers with a deft hand and surely stands as one of the Black Library offerings most worthy of being called literature - alongside the Gaunt's Ghosts series.
