About this listen

The Climate Emergency threatens human civilization. All life-forms on the planet depend now on humanity to undo the harm it has done. Unfortunately, those who have been leading the charge to address climate change, such as Al Gore, have not been telling us the whole truth. They have continued to ignore its leading cause.

Food Is Climate gives us hope that the crisis can be addressed - in a way that will improve human health - but only if there's a grassroots movement to do the right thing, because clearly politicians and even environmental organizations have refused to lead.

Critic reviews

"Climate change is real, it’s here now, it’s getting worse very fast, and the consequences if we don’t fully address it are certain to be utterly catastrophic. People like Al Gore, Bill Gates, and Paul Hawken see how terribly dangerous our situation is, but their proposals fall seriously short of what’s needed if we are to have a viable future. And that’s what makes this stunning and highly readable book by Glen Merzer so incredibly important. There are in fact steps we could take that would defeat climate change and save our world, and Glen makes it clear exactly what they are. This book is an extraordinary antidote to the hopelessness that many of us feel. But more importantly, it may very well present us with the heretofore missing key to solving what is probably the greatest problem ever to confront humanity." (John Robbins, best-selling author and president, Food Revolution Network)

"A very readable story of man's impact on climate, seeing through the 'clean energy' mantra that has most of us mesmerised. This story is how cutting down trees, degrading land, tripping the seas of their natural climate defence, has destroyed the natural world and climate, and how our ravenous appetites, particularly for red meat and dairy, are killing the systems that keep us alive. Merzer reveals how the work of Al Gore and others have misled us with a narrative that is blind to the real changes that are needed, and shows us the transformational power of trees, soils, and removing livestock. I strongly believe Merzer is right, and we need to get behind these ideas." (Gerard Wedderburn-Bisshop, former principal scientist, Queensland Government Natural Resources, Australia; lead scientist and founder, World Preservation Foundation)

"Food Is Climate is the only book in the world that discloses the complete truth about the relationship - and the timeline of discovery - between humans eating animals, climate change and our steadily declining chances for surviving much longer as a species. It shines a bright, embarrassing light on Al Gore, one of the few globally-recognized leaders who understand the complete truth about climate change - but lacks the courage to share that crucial knowledge with the public. Maybe this book will help to shame him into taking a global stand on the most crucial topic in the history of humanity. Leveraging his global fame and wealth, he could make a real difference by loudly, and urgently, sharing the truth with the public about the paramount importance of a rapid shift to plant-based eating throughout the world." (J. Morris Hicks, author of Healthy Eating, Healthy World and Outcry, Urgent Alarms from Our Planet and What We Can Do About Them)

Obvious

It is unnerving that an answer such as this is met with such staunch resistance by so many. It does not speak well of our society.

SHORT AND TO THE POINT!

The information here has motivated me to move toward a plant based diet as soon as i can. Silly to think it will be overnight but i can start! Now can i get my husband to join me? Probably not, if I tell him, but since i cook dinner, i can introduce it over time. 😀

An absomust read for people who care about climate

This book lays out the case for food related solutions to climate change more concisely and better than anything else I'm aware of. If you care about the climate you should read this.

Disappointing

I push myself to be very open minded and objective when approaching an unfamiliar topic. Looking forward to expanding my horizons, I was saddened to find that I had to force myself to finish this book. I found that in attempting to prove his goal, he was misleading and disingenuous.
Just to start, Mr Merzer mentions the number of heat related deaths ( according to Bjorn Lomborg in a July 14,2021 article -Heat kills about 2500 people a year in the US and Canada. Cold related deaths in the US are more than 100,000; 13000 in Canada) and fails to mention how much worse cold related deaths are.
He talks about the compassion we should have and therefore we should not slaughter livestock. He wants us to be at -0-. I guess if we don't raise cows, goats, sheep or chicken then we should make them extinct. We certainly don't need leather, wool nor cheese in Mr Merzer's vegan world. Don't think about the farmers, ranchers, equipment manufacturers, transporters, grocers, food processing operations or any other agricultural support groups. So much for compassion! Unfortunately, I could go on and on. Don't waste your time as I did reading a non-supported one sided message. His cure for climate change throws everything else under the bus
