Publisher's summary

Marcus Buckingham’s books have guided millions to become top performers in everything they do by focusing on their strengths. In Go Put Your Strengths to Work, a Wall Street Journal bestseller, Buckingham will show you how to hone and apply your strengths for maximum success in your career.

Research data show that most people do not come close to making full use of their assets at work—in fact, only seventeen percent of the workforce believe they use all of their strengths on the job. Go Put Your Strengths to Work aims to change that through a six-step, six-week experience that will reveal the hidden dimensions of your strengths. Buckingham shows you how to seize control of your assets and rewrite your job description under the nose of your boss. You will learn:

-Why your strengths aren't “what you are good at” and your weaknesses aren’t “what you are bad at.”
-How to use the four telltale signs to identify your strengths.
-The simple steps you can take each week to push your time at work toward those activities that strengthen you and away from those that don’t.
-How to talk to your boss and your colleagues about your strengths without sounding like you’re bragging and about your weaknesses without sounding like you’re whining.
-The fifteen-minute weekly ritual that will keep you on your strengths path your entire career.

With structured exercises that will become part of your regular workweek and proven tactics from people who have successfully applied the book's lessons, Go Put Your Strengths to Work will arm you with a radically different approach to your work life. As part of the book's program you'll take an online Strengths Engagement Track, a focused and powerful gauge that has proven to be the best way to measure the level of engagement of your strengths or your team's strengths. You can also download the first two segments of the renowned companion film series Trombone Player Wanted.

Go Put Your Strengths to Work will open up exciting uncharted territory for you and your organization. Join the strengths movement and thrive.

Great book so far

Would you consider the audio edition of Go Put Your Strengths to Work to be better than the print version?

I'm not all the way through this book, but I do believe it's premise that one should capitalize on your strengths rather than always focusing on and trying to correct your weaknesses. As an HR professional I am looking forward to putting some of this focus into practice in performance reviews. It may be difficult for people to pinpoint their areas of expertise or where they are naturally gifted. The book also speaks about how your underlying personality doesn't change. This applies to child-rearing as well. Many parents, including myself spend lots of time focusing on the things about our children that we would like to change rather than focusing on what makes them special and how these gifts will carry them through their lives. Already I've learned much about the power of this focus and see lots of ways to apply it to practice at home and at work.

Wonderful book on personal development

"Go put your strengths to work" delivers what it promises: it is a very practical approach to applying strengths based career and development thinking in everyday life. While listening to this audiobook, I had several "eye opening" moments. The proposition that studying failure does not provide clues to what makes excellence, but that success comes from amplyfying strengths, is a very strong statement, that everybody working on personal development (their own or others) should take to heart. One of the very few downsides of the book is that it is very focused on employees, not independent entrepreneurs like myself.

Bringing it together

I'll buy Buckinghams books just to hear his voice but, in this book the he finally tells us how to intergrate all of his previous books. The other books were good but this one brings it all together.

Go Put Your Strengths to Work

Great Book,However the Author keeps referring to PDF files that are supposed to accompany the audio book, as well as passwords or links to visit the website and take the Cliffton Test.
Pity I cannot implement the suggestions, if you do a word search the recccomedations are to buy a new book for $ 20 + or what ever the current sale price is.
This is truly dissapointing, had this been mentioned on the Audible site , I would have been aware of this and not spent hours listening to the material , and now not be able to use it.
Can the Author or publishers help out Audible member listeners ?

Audible too should get this clarification from the Authors/Publishers and let buyers now if a work book that should be there accompanies that particular download Purchase.

Sincerely ,

Strengths Review

I am a full-time pastor and a life-long learner. I purchased the book a couple of weeks ago and decided to get the audiobook as well.

I'm excited about working through the book while listening to the audio. Another advantage to having the audiobook is that I can review while I'm in the car. I personally enjoyed the author's accent and find him very easy to understand.

This is my first week with the material. I've really enjoyed working through the introduction and will start Chapter 1 next week. I believe it will help me better use my strengths.

I first came across "Now Discover Your Strengths" while in seminary in the fall semester of 2006. Part of the assignment was to take the online "StrengthsFinder" profile in addition to doing a book report on the book. I invested in these sources to help me put my strengths to work!

Great book but additional content is broken

What did you love best about Go Put Your Strengths to Work?

Fantastic ideas and ways to approach your current job and organization.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Not really applicable.

Have you listened to any of Marcus Buckingham’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

no.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

The way to convert your current job to your ideal job.

Any additional comments?

There is quite a bit of material both online and pdf that is supposed to be accessible with a code. My code as sent by Audible does not work for any of the online content. This has made what would be an otherwise great experience frustrating.
