Publisher's summary

Five years after Jackie Robinson’s retirement from baseball, Don Mesibov had the privilege of conducting an interview with this legendary human being. The interview was recorded for Boston University radio station WBUR and broadcast in its entirety only once–in the winter of 1962.

In this interview, Jackie Robinson spoke out on his reaction to being elected to the Hall of Fame, his relationship with Branch Rickey, the man who chose Robinson as the person to break the color barrier, the art of stealing bases, particularly home plate, politics, including why he supported Richard Nixon over John F. Kennedy in the 1960 presidential election campaign, and the fight of Negroes, as African Americans were referred to then, to be treated like all other Americans.

This book is based on the interview Mesibov conducted with Robinson and includes Robinson's own words as he spoke them during the 40-minute interview.
