Publisher's summary

The long-awaited sequel to Jake’s Magical Market is finally here—and now with more market!

Well, not quite yet. First, Jake has to survive a perilous trek through time if he ever hopes to return home to his friends, his market, and his former world. The last time we saw our intrepid hero, Jake had barely managed to escape being trapped on a dead version of his own world. Using a combination of his new powers, he threw himself backward through time, back to when the god that trapped him first rose to power. There, Jake snatched divinity from the hands of the ascending god, consuming it for himself without any regard for the consequences of his actions. In a surprise twist, such a poorly thought-out plan came with some serious downsides! Now Jake has a big target painted on his back. The jealous gods of this world are hungry for divine power and not afraid to kill another god to get it. Stuck in the past, Jake must learn to navigate a world full of desperate gods, wild monsters, bizarre powers, and weird “cultivating” mortals who claim they can become just as powerful as the gods themselves—as long as they get to sit around contemplating the mysteries of the universe for a few hundred years first. Join Jake on his next grand adventure as he learns what it means to be a newly ascended divinity, how to survive in such a strange new world, and how he might just have an unexpected edge on everyone and everything that’s out to get him—by learning how to craft his own magical cards!

**Boasting a 4.7-star rating with over 11,000 reviews on Amazon/Audible, this sequel is a must-have for fans of Gamelit novels, wild adventures, and stories about regular people traveling to strange new worlds. Also, stay tuned for the third book in the series, which is gonna be even bigger, crazier, and full of even more magical cards. And it’s coming out in just a couple of months!**

J.R. Mathew’s delivers another winner !

Let me start by saying John P. Did a masterful performance narrating this book. It can be difficult changing narrator mid series, no drop off whatsoever.
Can’t wait for book 3.

A Seamless Transition and Exciting Journey

From the moment “Jake’s Magical Market 2” begins, the author’s note about the change in narrators sets a transparent and appreciative tone, preparing listeners for what turned out to be a seamless and enchanting auditory experience. John Pirhalla brought an incredible depth to the story, enhancing the already vivid character development and adding a new layer of engagement to the magical narrative. It’s not often that a change in narrators doesn’t just meet but exceeds expectations, and Pirhalla has undoubtedly left a memorable mark on this series.

The story itself is a magical rollercoaster of emotions, skillfully blending humor with meaningful character arcs that kept me hooked from start to finish. The laughs were well-timed, perfectly woven into the fabric of the narrative. In fact, I found myself so entertained that I’m half-tempted to buy a hardcover copy of the book—just so long as they don’t bind it out of a toenail…

Each character’s journey, especially Jake’s, was thoughtfully developed, making them feel real and relatable, even in a world brimming with magic. I’m eagerly anticipating the next book in the series, not just to see where the magical market takes us next, but also to enjoy more of John Pirhalla’s fantastic performance. It’s refreshing to see an author handle changes with such grace and transparency, making the listening experience all the more enjoyable.

If you’re on the fence about continuing the series due to the change, I wholeheartedly recommend giving “Jake’s Magical Market 2” a listen. You won’t be disappointed!

Gripping

What change in narrator? The story is so compelling you can’t even tell the narrator changed. It’s something I couldn’t wait to wake up in the morning to listen to

Keep listening

Great replacement for Travis. Was worried after book 1 the MC would be an overpowered “god”. Enjoying the new powers and world.

Great read

First off Baldry is absent narrated in this book. After about chapter 6 literally it’s a Baldree clone very comfy read. thank you, Mr. Matthews for not holding out for Baldry to wrap up your second and third book.

He did it!

I honestly felt that the series was relatively wrapped up after book one. I was overjoyed at seeing book two, but unsure which direction the story could possibly go. But he did it, he progressed the story in an absolute beautiful way.

This is a damn masterpiece.

Great narration.

Firstly, JP did an amazing job with the narration. The story was enjoyable and the action/fighting was fun and thrilling. I love the personalities of Jake’s illusionary menagerie but I didn’t like some of the new female characters.. Also, Jake’s overall development was weird. In my opinion he was stronger in the first story. At times, Jake’s progression seem stilted. I can’t tell if he’s a Demi-God, Godling, God, or whatever.
