Publisher's summary
John Dies at the End is a genre-bending, humorous account of two college drop-outs inadvertently charged with saving their small town—and the world—from a host of supernatural and paranormal invasions.
Stop.
You should not have touched this flyer with your bare hands.
No, don’t put it down. It’s too late. They’re watching you.
My name is David Wong. My best friend is John. Those names are fake. You might want to change yours. You may not want to know about the things you’ll read on these pages, about the sauce, about Korrok, about the invasion, and the future. But it’s too late. You touched the book. You’re in the game. You’re under the eye.
The only defense is knowledge. You need to read this book, to the end. Even the part with the bratwurst. Why? You just have to trust me.
The important thing is this: the drug is called Soy Sauce, and it gives users a window into another dimension. John and I never had the chance to say no. You still do.
I’m sorry to have involved you in this, I really am. But as you read about these terrible events and the very dark epoch the world is about to enter as a result, it is crucial you keep one thing in mind: none of this was my fault.

But the force that’s sweeping the world is no pathogen. It’s just the first shock wave, unleashed by a stunning discovery - and what’s in jeopardy is not our minds but the very fabric of time itself. In New York City, Detective Barry Sutton is closing in on the truth - and in a remote laboratory, neuroscientist Helena Smith is unaware that she alone holds the key to this mystery...and the tools for fighting back.

Charlie7 is the progenitor of a mechanical race he built from the ashes of a dead world—Earth. He is a robot of leisure and idle political meddling—a retirement well-earned. Or he was, until a human girl named Eve was dropped in his lap. Geneticists have restored Earth’s biome and begun repopulation. But primate cloning is in its infancy; human cloning is banned. Far from a failed genetics experiment, Eve is brilliant, curious, and heartbreakingly naïve about her species’ history. But Eve’s creator wants her back and has a gruesome fate planned for her.

A twenty-one-year-old named Jack has dropped out of college, leaving his old life behind to build a new one in New York City. Manhattan's rough edges are jagged enough to shred any unwary newcomer, but perhaps not one who is determined to stay off the grid, at any cost, in the busiest metropolis on earth. And to do so, he'll have to take jobs of a less than legal nature.

Not as good as second book
While the first and second book in Wong's series's a bunch of Zaney fun this one seems random and aimless. The second one had much tighter editing but still hit the surprising fun of wings style. I recommend watching the movie of this book rather than reading it. This one is just too experimental and repetitive.

it has its flaws but it's Unique and it's funny
there are parts that feel a bit tedious and things get a little sloppy here and they're trying to make all the time stuff work but overall it was very entertaining and it had an interesting story style where it dances between hilarious terrifying and profound

Messed up and terrific
Just about the wackiest book I've ever read. Loved it, and it had great narration. Eager to read the rest of the series

Brilliant !!!
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I loved this book. The narration was excellent. The story line engaging. Imagine a gut clenching adventure through the Matrix while spinning inside the Twilight Zone with Dale Gribble leading the way. I laughed, cried, laughed some more and if David Wong had been standing in front of me when I read the final words.. I would have beaten him senseless with my kindle!! I am recommending this book to all my friends & family. :)
Who was your favorite character and why?
John was my favorite character. Without him the story would have fallen flat.
What does Stephen R. Thorne bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
His narration was beyond perfect in this book, just as it is in every book he has done. I don't think anyone else could have brought the characters to life as well as he did.

Odd? Strange? Filled with Farts.
I am not the type of person to pick up a second book in a series first; however, I did so with this series. I purchased the follow up book "This Book is Filled with Spiders; Dude Seriously Don't Open It." without even realizing it was the follow up to "John Dies at the End"
This series is very fun to listen to, the story is a bit odd and hard to follow compaired to its sequel but the oddball humor and deliver make it a great light read, the heroes of the book come off as just incompetent enough to make you feel like they could really be two drunken stupid friends who stumbled into super powers.

The Hitchhikers Live in Fear & Loathing
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Definitely. It's an terribly original work in a style that reminds me a hybrid between The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, They Live, and Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas.
Who was your favorite character and why?
John was terrifically absurd, providing both comic relief and exposition.

Fantastic blend of sci-fi and sarcastic humor
It has a serious "what the hell just happened" feel to it. Spoilers, don't get too attached to John.
