Publisher's summary

"Wonderful characters, unique setting, and an engaging romance set against the backdrop of ancient magic. I can't wait to see what L. Penelope will do next." (Ilona Andrews, number one New York Times best-selling author)

L. Penelope's Song of Blood & Stone is a treacherous, thrilling, epic audiobook fantasy about an outcast drawn into a war between two powerful rulers.

Orphaned and alone, Jasminda lives in a land where cold whispers of invasion and war linger on the wind. Jasminda herself is an outcast in her homeland of Elsira, where her gift of Earthsong is feared. When ruthless soldiers seek refuge in her isolated cabin, they bring with them a captive - an injured spy who threatens to steal her heart.

Jack's mission behind enemy lines to prove that the Mantle between Elsira and Lagrimar is about to fall nearly cost him his life, but he is saved by the healing Song of a mysterious young woman. Now he must do whatever it takes to save Elsira and its people from the True Father, and he needs Jasminda's Earthsong to do it. They escape their vicious captors and together embark on a perilous journey to save Elsira and to uncover the secrets of The Queen Who Sleeps.

Thrust into a hostile society, Jasminda and Jack must rely on one another even as secrets jeopardize their bond. As an ancient evil gains power, Jasminda races to unlock a mystery that promises salvation. The fates of two nations hang in the balance as Jasminda and Jack must choose between love and duty to fulfill their destinies and end the war.

Fantasy worth reading

It started a little slow, but it may have taken me a while to get used to the voice of the reader. But once it picked up, I was hooked and by the end of it, immediately ordered the sequel. I'm a fan of Sanderson, Goodkind, and Robert Jordan. This series has the potential to join those ranks.

“Hidden Treasure!”

For months, I’ve been looking for a good book to read that didn’t have sex in the third chapter. Thank you L. Penelope for this amazing story. I’ve already downloaded the second book to this series and can’t wait to get started. The narrator was also amazing. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Decent, not great

This book has a decent flow to it, and an interesting concept, and even likeable main characters.

But there are some things that don't fit. The tone and level are YA, but there are some rather descriptive sex scenes, so it definitely isn't that.

I love genre bending, but if not done well, it just doesn't work. Here, the setting is mostly classic fantasy world with magic, but suddenly modern technologies are inserted, which could be awesome but in this case is clumsy. There isn't enough of it to be integral to the world, and there is a mish-mash of too many periods. And wester/frontier overtones.

And for a book that is essentially a tract on race - it's treatment of the subject is rather simplistic.

Yet going back to the start of this - it was nevertheless an enjoyable listen.

Decent Book

This book definitely fell into some cliches and stereotypes. But was still a decent read (listen?). Ending felt a bit rushed and I don't 100% love the boom but like I said still a good read.

I just loved the story between Jasmina and Jack, the connection between them from the beginning and the fight that Jasmina has is everything!!!!! I hope there is a part 2.

Abridged

This is supposed to be unabridged, but several sections are missing compared to the book version. Would be 5-stars if not for that.

This book captured my attention

At times i found myself having to go back to other chapters understanding what was going on. But overall the story line is magnificent. I just wish the other books were available on audible.
