About this listen

The 6:20 Man is back, dropped by his handlers into a small coastal town in Maine to solve the murder of a CIA agent who knew America’s dirtiest secrets—can Travis Devine uncover the truth before his time runs out?

When CIA operative Jenny Silkwell is murdered in rural Maine, government officials have immediate concerns over national security. Her laptop and phone were full of state secrets that, in the wrong hands, endanger the lives of countless operatives. In need of someone who can solve the murder quickly and retrieve the missing information, the U.S. government knows just the chameleon they can call on.

Ex-Army Ranger Travis Devine spent his time in the military preparing to take on any scenario, followed by his short-lived business career chasing shadows in the deepest halls of power, so his analytical mind makes him particularly well-suited for complex, high-stakes tasks. Taking down the world’s largest financial conspiracy proved his value, and in comparison, this case looks straightforward. Except small towns hold secrets and Devine finds himself an outsider again.

Devine must ingratiate himself with locals who have trusted each other their whole lives, and who distrust outsiders just as much. Dak, Jenny’s brother, who’s working to revitalize the town. Earl, the retired lobsterman who found Jenny’s body. And Alex, Jenny’s sister with a dark past of her own. As Devine gets to know the residents of Putnam, Maine, answers seem to appear and then transform into more questions. There’s a long history of secrets and those who will stop at nothing to keep them from being exposed. Leaving Devine with no idea who he can trust... and who wants him dead.

The Edge is Fantastic!

Yes, I am a huge fan of David Baldacci’s work! I listened to all of his books in each series, and then started in on his stand-alone novels. I picked “The 6:20 Man” when it was first released because, as a former soldier, I can relate to those types of characters. After listening to “The 6:20 Man” I knew that David Baldacci had created a character in Travis Devine that needed to continue on. I was ecstatic when “The Edge” was released! Mr. Baldacci did a marvelous job filling in the character of Travis Devine from the previous book, with sufficient detail that he is now as real to me as any of his other characters. The plot is full of action and switchbacks, but also includes the human side of our new hero. I have to call out the narrators as being top notch too! The voice of Zachary Webber is perfect for Travis Devine! My only criticism is that there are a few dubs in the production of the audio book that seemed completely out of context, and sometimes seemed to be by a different narrator altogether. Overall, I loved this audiobook and highly recommend it!! For the best experience, start with “The 6:20 Man”.

Great storytelling!

Love the ongoing mystery to solve, love the ability and competence of Levine, love the ambiance of the story, the ongoing description of the weather and terrain. Reminded me of the Jesse Stone movies/books by Robert Parker.

Some sound editing issues, good story, enjoyed it

Overall, I enjoyed the story, plot, etc. The only issues I have are that for the setting of Maine, the locals should have a Mainer accent and not a southern one. This was off-putting to me. There were also some quality assurance issues with regard to the audio where the voice tone changed as well as volume. Weird, but did not detract from the story.

Having different voices for the characters is good and helped with immediately identifying them as I listened.

Narration

Great story a bit slow starting but gets to where it needs to be. I really liked the female narrator good vocal range and expressive without going over the top. The male narrator was a bit monotone. You can’t go wrong with this story or series.
