Publisher's summary

The colony on Haven-7 has gone rogue.

The colonists have split into two factions: the Techborn and the Dusters. The Techborn have always ruled the planet. They control the remnants of the crashed starship that brought humanity to this new world. The Dusters… they eat Techborn dust.

Now, the Techborn strength is waning. Their weapons are getting old, and radiation leaks from the aging reactors have created mutations. Some of these, like their brutish troops known as Tuskers, have proven useful—but others are abominations.

When the Dusters rebel, civil war breaks out. Special Forces operative Dane Tanner is transmitted to Haven-7 to stabilize the colony… by any means necessary.

The Techborn is the thrilling first book of the Rift Warrior series. With millions of copies sold, USA Today bestselling author B. V. Larson is the king of modern military science fiction.

New world to follow, given to us from BV Larson.

Enjoyed this book very much. The main character Dane Tanner was quite the tough guy and loved it.

teenage fantasy

melodramatic and over acted. it's okay if you're into this kind of story, but I won't be back for the next story.

Good for background noise

I didn't hate it. I didn't love it. It's the type of book and story that's good for when you're doing projects or chores without needing to pay attention to every word. I just never felt invested in the groups.

He writes the same book over and over again

It's really simple, Larson, continues to write the same tired book over and over again. It is a Neanderthal Flash Gordon. Things that make no sense other than to facilitate the advancement of this silly ultra-man nonsense, The main character's incessant ogling and description of every woman in the book is tiresome. It would really be nice to have some more thoughtful and imaginative narratives in these books, but I fear that Larson is not capable of anything beyond this simple trite tripe.

really bad

sloppy bad writing. not worth the liaten. The story line has potential, if another author got their hand on it. John Scalzi could make it a masterpiece.

Snoooze fest

Very boring and a lot of the voices are the same or similar to ones used in BV’s other books. Very disappointing story but good if you need something to help you fall asleep.

Pitiful

Larson can normally pull off his "Hick-Main-Character, Low-Tech" approach to telling a Sci-Fi story, but not this time.

The Narrator's quavering "Old Man Voice" got *OLD* YEARS ago, but it has simply become grating now.

Combined, this book turned out to be a pitiful effort... which is disappointing, because I eagerly await Larson's newest "* World" books... Whatever -this- effort was, I don't know.

Sorry, I'm blaming Covid for the horrible books being spewed out by authors and narrators in the last few years.

Disappointed in this one

I really like the author. I've read or listened to many of his books. This one was not a good book. So many plot holes, poor decisions and people acting in completely improbable and out of character ways. This is the first time I have ever said this about this author, but I will not be picking up the next book in this series.
