A nobleman from an infamous family, an imperial legionary officer, and a born fighter, Captain Ben Stiger has successfully thwarted the attack from an army of the Cyphan Confederacy. Now Stiger, his men, and his new dwarven allies have fallen back behind the great walls of Castle Vrell. Stiger finds himself named Legate of the Vanished, the long-lost 13th Legion. This title and his own word binds him to the terms of the Compact, an ancient and mystical alliance formed nearly 2,000 years before.

The snows have come, and the mountain summit into Vrell is impassable. On one side of the pass sits an army of the Cyphan Confederacy some 20,000 strong. On the other sits Stiger, his company, the remnants of the 13th Legion, and a dwarven army. Each side is waiting for the spring thaw.

Bottled up in the Vrell valley, Stiger and his elven companion, Eli, learn of Garand Thoss, an ancient and abandoned dwarven city. Within its hallowed halls resides a prize of unimaginable value - a prize that will reveal the true history of the empire and force Stiger to face a new enemy more deadly than he has ever faced before.

Fantastic story

I have found that each book is better than the one before the last. How it is done is a wonderful thing. If you are a fan or history but like a little of the fantasy thrown in than this is the series for you.

Another fantastic tale

I am so hocked and feel a little dread as I know there are only three parts left. This is fantastic blend of the world of the Roman Empire and blended in fantasy. These tales feed my endless huger for all things Roman and tales of fantasy. I started with a free Audiobook the Lost Legion and have not been able to put these stories down. Highly Entertaining!

second time around was even better.

I love this book and series. I took some time to read some reviews. I dont understand some of the trolls that find it necessary to belittle a book of author. this book was interesting, very suspenseful, and well written. in my humble opinion it was a excellent read.

GREAT READ, THE WHOLE SERIES!!!

I've both read and listen to this series. You'll find this to be one of the best story lines around. once you start you won't want to stop. Then it stops, no book 4 and now you have to wait...damn

Good

I am hooked can't wait for the next one, the story is definitely on top of how it actually was in Roman Imperial society and the Legions with some good SciFi thrown in!

Unexpected Ending

This book was suspenseful in nature. The ending was something I didn't expect whenever I started it, because it really didn't seem like it would end that way. I also expected Stiger to develop a relationship with the elf, in probably the next book. Truly a great ending.

Is the next book available?

This has turned out to be another keeper! I must admit that I'm extremely frugal with my five star ratings and during the month of November I've used them twice! My keeper shelf overfloweth, Both authors have made and surpassed the water mark of fantasy. MarkAlan Edelheit did not soften any action as his descriptions of a battle and all that caused it, graphically are shown. If this had been all there was to the book, it would have just another ten hours of blood and guts, no where close to a Five. He paints the characters full of humanity's foibles and the interaction between them is definitive and charges the book. Based on the Roman Legions of yore, I was stunned when our Roman leader finds that Rome was not old wives tales but had actually existed! That's only one of many subtle signals the author gives so that I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop. Steven Brand is a new narrator to me so I was pleasantly surprised at the acumen and depth he brings to the book. He definately rated a five without any doubt at all! Tiger's Fate is an excellent book, well read. What more matters?
