About this listen

An Instant New York Times Bestseller!

China has concentration camps now. Why do Westerners claim our sins are unique?

It is now in vogue to celebrate non-Western cultures and disparage Western ones. Some of this is a much-needed reckoning, but much of it fatally undermines the very things that created the greatest, most humane civilization in the world.

In The War on the West, Douglas Murray shows how many well-meaning people have been fooled by hypocritical and inconsistent anti-West rhetoric. After all, if we must discard the ideas of Kant, Hume, and Mill for their opinions on race, shouldn’t we discard Marx, whose work is peppered with racial slurs and anti-Semitism? Embers of racism remain to be stamped out in America, but what about the raging racist inferno in the Middle East and Asia?

It’s not just dishonest scholars who benefit from this intellectual fraud but hostile nations and human rights abusers hoping to distract from their own ongoing villainy. Dictators who slaughter their own people are happy to jump on the “America is a racist country” bandwagon and mimic the language of antiracism and “pro-justice” movements as PR while making authoritarian conquests.

If the West is to survive, it must be defended. The War on the West is not only an incisive takedown of foolish anti-Western arguments but also a rigorous new apologetic for civilization itself.

Seminal work that eviscerates Woke Racism

Douglas Murray is cultural equivalent in the 2020s to what Churchill was in the 1930s. He delineates the threats, tactics, and psychosis that lies at the heart of modern Left's efforts to undermine the epistemological and ethical foundation of civilization itself. He's a herald, a harbinger, and a hero.

Put simply: The best book on the burning question of the age

A passionate plea for Western civilization, humanity, and sanity, based on a dispassionate analysis of the facts - thorough and insightful. A walk through Western art, music, philosophy, and literature, clearly expressed in beautiful English. A brilliant refutation of the unfounded and dangerous theories of the enemies of Western culture, detailed and serious; nothing, not a single absurd claim, is left unanswered. A work of beauty and wisdom.

As fabulous as it was haunting

Extremely well researched and put together, as expected of Murray. I found it distressing at times and had to set it aside but ultimately it didn't take long to get through as it was so engaging. As a homeschool mother, I will be sure not to leave out the wonders as well as the mistakes of the West when teaching my children.

A little much…

The best part of this book is in the last chapter. I wish there was more insight through out the book rather than just at the end. Most of the book is what I call “he said she said” stuff, it’s almost like tattling on the opposing sides antagonists. Over all, it was worth slogging through it all for the end.

I agree with author

I agree with what Murray says in the book. I appreciate him digging into and presenting details of the ridiculous turns the issues of the recent culture wars have taken. But it was difficult to listen to nonstop negative tone. I had to turn it off occasionally.

Eloquent counterpoint and important prose.

Well done, Mr. Murray. Congratulations.

Laser focused and efficient arguments. Stated with passion and earnestness. For those “doing the work” if you do not include this in your research you’re not working hard enough.

Fantastic defense and celebration of the West

Douglas Murray’s brilliant work about the attack on traditional Western customs and accomplishments is only surpassed by his wonderful narration. This book is an all-around great listen.
