Her work, including the 'Constructing your Career' and ' Young Gun' books, talk about the mediocre standards that have filtered through into leadership practice and how YOU can employ self-leadership to have career success in the construction industry.

One lesson I learned was that employees and a company are mutually exclusive. A company's success will not accurately reflect the satisfaction of its employees

I’ll be the first to admit that job interviews can be a daunting process.

On my podcast, Garry’s Shortlist, I had the pleasure of speaking with Sean Tyler Foley - author, international business advisor and speaker who helps clients transform into captivating, confident speakers.

In particular, we discuss his book ‘The Power to Speak Naked: How to Speak with Confidence, Communicate Effectively, and Win Your Audience.’ Don’t fear, you aren’t expected to become the next Tony Robbins! Rather, the book is designed to help individuals share their message with confidence, whether it be in a meeting with stakeholders, clients or your own team.

Here are Sean’s three key takeaways for a great presentation:

1. Think of yourself as a FACILITATOR of conversation as opposed to a deliverer of information
2. The topic your afraid to discuss is probably what your audience needs to hear the MOST
3. Encourage and invite participation

Mates: Stronger together. That’s the simple, yet powerful message behind Mates in Construction.

They have been an organisation dedicated to suicide prevention and support since 2008, and today on the pod, I chat with their CEO Brad Parker. 

We’ve still got a long way to go in our industry when it comes to mental health. However, it's providing places like this for people to go and seek help that are going to continue to make all the difference.

US Construction Zone is a platform for connecting construction professionals (both in the US, and around the world!) so they can work together to find solutions and make big improvements in construction.
